 Wonderful vacation
1st time in Cancun. The hotel was wonderful and the food excellent. The lobby has all kinds of alcoholic beverages. My room was a bit cold, but I adjusted the temperature no problem. The staff even did a special arrangement in my room with rose petals and chocolate for my birthday.

Really Nice Stay For a Quick Escape
Headed down with a friend for a quick 7 day all in escape. Went on a Transat package so didn't have to deal with any additional fees for airport, transport etc.The hotel is well maintained, around 500 rooms and the staff are very friendly and efficient. At check in enquired if any were available if it was possible and it would cause no issues if we could get a room with a full balcony vs juliette, as we has been bumped to higher rate instead of super saver rate. It pays to be a polite traveller, as next to us another lady was causing a scene over her Wi-Fi not being included in her package, which is clearly stated when booking. We were given a beautiful room in the centre area with a view over the complete resort, and a full balcony. Hammocks are included on each full balcony and we used ours lots during our stay. The resort has five ala cartes, one large central pool, a large buffet, snack bar with hot food and drinks, main bar and beach bar. We enjoyed the pool, which would have been nicer if a bit bigger but seldom used beach area as it is small and crowded, which we were aware of when we booked. The food was good if not stellar at the buffet, with lots of choices. We did find however by day 5 choices become somewhat repetitive even with the size. We only used one ala carte, as no matter how early we were up to book, we would always find the other four were fully booked though their website said they had to be daily which we found disappointing. The nightly entertainment was good overall, on par with what you see at the smaller resorts but still enjoyable. There was also a market with local vendors in evenings to satisfy urge for souvenirs of you did not feeling like straying off the resort. My friend is a runner and ventured out and about daily and had no issues off resort. For me this trip was about doing absolutely nothing for 7 days except relax, which I did and enjoyed. I normally do not travel all inclusive but was satisfied overall with my stay. The hotel had guests from across spectrum, so was not crazy in the evenings and we got to meet a lot of very nice people on our stay.If you are looking for a relaxing stay, with good food, relatively quiet, are not focused on a beach, easy access to other off resort activities this would be a great choice for your stay for a reasonable price.

 Underwhelming Resort
First I have to say it was nice they let us check in early since we arrived at 12pm. Our room was fine besides the 2nd night we were in our room and our room connected to another room and someone opened that door, so needless to say the fact that someone accessed our room was a little scary. The beach was nice a little small. The restaurants were okay we did not like the fact that there were not more options in an all inclusive resort. The food was okay there was nothing that I'd say was so good you need to go to that restaurant. We never had the chance to eat at the Italian place which was disappointing. I'd have to say the buffet was the best place to eat. The snack bar did not have the freshest food unless you were there at the start of the morning or afternoon. Overall, if I'd go back to Cancun I would not stay at this resort. I also did not like how the WiFi was not working and if it was working you had to pay for it. The gift shop needs to have more t-shirts in it, I ended up buying a kids shirt so needless to say I won't be wearing that.

 Good for 4 day Getaway
Beautifully kept hotel - Gardens, grounds and pool. Staff very nice. They could improve the welcome desk coordinator. She proved too eager to sign us up for stuff when we just wanted to check in.....The reception desk manger on the other hand was delightful and kind. The restaurants we mixed. Italian one was wonderful. The Buffet one was very good. However, the Japanese one seemed totally out of place. The food was inedible. They should just do a Mexican style restaurant. Chips and Gauc, salsa bar. Tortillas etc? When in Mexico ..?

 Would not go there again
Been to All Inclusive in Cancun three times in the past two years and this was the least favorite hotel. Room was nothing special and it rained a few nights and we awake to water on the floor in front of the sliding balcony door. The hot water was hit and miss in the shower. The food was mediocre at best and I suspect the drinks were very watered down. Nothing compared to Solaris.

Myself & my daughter stayed here & can only say the whole experience was fantastic, the only downside was we only booked a week and not two.The staff are brilliant they re all friendly and accommodating, the entertainment staff are the best especially Brandon, what a lovely guy, you can tell he enjoys his job & he made our holiday with his fun nature & outgoing personality, he makes you want to join in his games ( water volleyball, salsa, bingo etc) the others were lovely too ( clarisa, serena & Dani ), well worth a visit if you haven't been. The rooms are clean, large and have all you need, there's even a free mini fridge in every room which is replenished every day. Many thanks to all the staffClaire & Hannah

 Amazing!!
We stayed here for 2wks.......all I can cay is wow!! Amazing place with amazing staff, food was amazing and our room was immaculate. Only complaint is the reception staff were not very pleasant and very uninterested, ignored you when you were stood waiting and also talked amongst themselves in their language sniggering which was very rude and degrading, also we went to the spa and once the staff there realised we didn't want any treatments and just wanted to use the steam room they were very rude and handed us a towel to get on with it and find things ourselves....again very rude! The bar staff, restaurant staff and entertainment staff etc were had working and made our stay there amazing!

If it weren't for the fact that our air conditioning stopped working and no one ever came and fixed it, it would've been an excellent hotel to stay in and regardless, I will still recommend it to everyone!More

This hotel was average the room was nice and clean which was a plus and the staff is very nice but this is not a party hotel a lot of old people and the drinks and food could be much much better overall a good stay would I stay here again maybe not but overall good i would say.. Drinks suck tough lol unless it is a straight shot

 Just terrible
Food was always cold & just mediocre to begin with. Room was clean but did not look like the pictures at all. Drinks were watered down at best. You also get pestered to take a "welcome package" which consists of a tour and breakfast at a sister resort followed by an opportunity to buy into their vacation club. This vacation club is extremely overpriced and not worth it. They want a down payment of over $1000 due that day then a yearly fee of $350 & a monthly payment of $150 then you also have to pay $399 to come and actually stay for a week. After about 6pm the hotel looks deserted. For all inclusive there are next to no activities here. I would not recommend and most definitely not return.

 Great place to stay at!
We loved our stay in this hotel. The hotel was clean and the people who worked there were super nice and inviting. The hotel's location was only 5 minutes away from Cancun's night life and everything else seemed fairly close. The all included buffet and drinks made the trip even better! 100% would recommend.

 Nice Hotel
First time in Colombia and I really enjoyed my stay at Occidental resort. The staff are attentive , friendly and offer great customer service. The food is really good at the reserved restaurants and so the buffet. Although they don’t offer much food variety at breakfast, the food overall was really good. The hotel is very well kept and Super clean. The pool was very clean as well and the lavaratories. My room was kept very clean during my entire stay , but the only problem was the bed. The mattress was not comfortable because it was very hard but the pillows were very confortable. We are from the Dominican Republic but residing in NYC and we will definitely recommend this hotel. Our stay was very pleasant and we really enjoyed the time there. They also have the shuttle bus which is very convenient to go around and explore. We we went to tourist area , cafe Del Mar and Isla Del Rosario which we enjoyed pretty good. Will definitely go back !!

 Awesome!!!
Great room, great location, quiet and relaxing. If you're looking for a party hotel then look elsewhere but if you wanna lounge on the beach under the beautiful palm trees with some cocktails then this place is perfect. Well kept, clean hotel. Several dining choices, food was very good in the a la carte restaurants. Staff did a great job with the nightly entertainment and attentive service throughout the day. We will be back for sure!

 Excellent for young solo travelers
I decided to go on a vacation and chose this location. I'm 24 years old and I went by myself. It was a great atmosphere and I was able to meet many other individuals in my similar age range with similar interests. We hung out together we found spots outside of the resort to go to and we make friendships that will last a lifetime

For a 4 star - All include hotel costs about 180$ a night we ( a couple) would expect more.Food is very medium. Buffe is very simple and there are not more then 2-3 good dishes at a time.A la cart restaurnat are a little bettter but limited on space. You have to make reservation early in morning to unsure it. Spa is nice but it was fruastrating to find out it divided for women and men, so we couldnt enjoy it together! For some reason, occidental choose to charge additional fee for wifi and we had to pay 25$ for it.Hotel activity were medium as well.Room was nice and clean.Medium hotel - not worth the money.

 All-Inclusive Vacation Location!
Occidental Costa Cancun is a fun place to stay. There is always something going on. During the day the Entertainment Team can keep you busy with exercise on the beach, games in the pool, fun contests, etc.The beach area was smaller than we expected but was certainly fine. It is on a channel going out to the ocean so you can watch a lot of boats going by. There is an area for kayaking. In the evening there are excellent nightly shows on the poolside stage. There are 4 restaurants to choose from for your eating pleasure and it is a pleasure. The food is excellent and offers a great variety. You can eat at the buffet everyday and find something new. The desserts are wonderful! We were very comfortable with our beds and pillows and slept well. The well-stocked in-room refrigerator is nice and restocked free each day depending on what you use. All staff were very friendly and helpful.

This is out 3rd trip to this hotel. Our first with no children. As we've been before we knew the hotel would be good. Since our last visit the hotel has been redecorated and given a real freshen up. All the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. This is the hotel to come to for an informal and relaxing holiday

The food was great, lots to choose from. The staff really amazed me, they looked so happy all the time, as if they were not even working, but there to do whatever we asked. The pool is amazingly beautiful, and the drinks we had around it were delicious! Highly recommend this hotel!

 Very clean, friendly resort!
I would defiantly recommend this resort. Not too many people so nothing was overly crowded. Clean beaches and good area to wade in the water without huge waves. Everyone was so friendly. Food was AMAZING! Snack bar was always stocked and so convenient. No complaints at all.

Very good resort for the money. Nice pool and good service at all of the restaurants.. Not the best beach for swimming/snorkeling but it was the only thing we were not thrilled with. The resort is beautiful and the nightly poolside entertainment is free and really good. Fun atomospehere and our room was very nice.

 A home away from home
Reading the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. *note: I was not able to choose anything other than 5 stars for each of the categories (annoying)* Service 5, Cleanliness 3.5, Value 4, Location 4, Rooms 4, Sleep Quality 5.After my stay there definitely were pros and cons.Pros:The service staff were fantastic. They remembered your name, your face and your drink of choice. They always greeted me with a smile and a friendly acknowledgment. Carlos from the Albatros buffet was incredible! We talked everyday and created a personalized experience for me. The entertainment staff tried so hard to get people involved. They were friendly and warm but the guests did not seem to be interested. I wonder if more entertainment staff from other parts of the world would help.It was right on the beach - the beach is small and can be quite busy at times with passing boats, but it was perfectly relaxing. I never had to fight for a lounger at any time during the day.The other guests were also so friendly. I have never met so many interesting and wonderful people. Because of the smaller nature of the resort, it was very easy to make friends and see them often.Cons:The room. There were ants all the time in the room. There was a leak in the bathroom between the shower and vanity. I placed towels every day on the floor to soak up the water but housekeeping would remove them but never address the issue. For the last two days, there was no hot water.Front desk staff. From the moment of arrival, they seemed bothered by helping you. I had something stolen from the beach and it was very difficult to get them to look at the lost and found for me.It was also quite a distance from the main strip of Cancun. The front desk staff were not quite that helpful in assisting you in figuring out how to get down there from the hotel.Overall I would return, mostly to see the staff that worked there. The hotel certainly needs work to catch up to the standard of others in the area, but it definitely has the potential.

Wish we could've skipped reception all together.
Ms. Araceli Pech at reception has a very poor sense of what customer service entails. Her lack of urgency and empathy towards guest is baffling. More over she becomes belligerent, disconnected of guests' priorities and completely indifferent towards guests when an issue is brought up to her. It is quite frustrating to see all of the hotel's staff hard work be tainted by the management ineptitude of one person.

 GREAT staff and pool.
This is a wonderful hotel for a great price. The room we stayed in wasn't "new and improved" but very comfortable. The premises are perfection. Pool is clean and clear. Staff are great and do anything and everything to make your stay memorable. Didn't mind not having wifi...too many people can't put their pads, phones etc. down anyway. Try it, you'll like it...that is, talking to a human being that you are sitting with. The food was fine. Many choices and we could always find something good to eat. Some things were questionable so we just didn't eat them. Great bars and staff. Cancun is a lot warmer then we remembered. Lots of humidity too so just expect it. LOVED our vacation!

 DJ TAB REVIEW
My experience at this resort was very pleasant. The staff was very friendly and kind. The pool was very clean and very fun to be in. I believe that for entertainment that there should be a DJ playing music throughout the day and night that would nice.

 wouldn't go back
Upon arrival we were not allowed to check into a room until 3 o'clock even though it was very low capacity and off-season for them. No big deal however upon getting in our room only three towels for four people and minibar was not stocked. Toilet sounded like a machine gun when you flushed it and ran all night. The food was OK and the restaurants but you had to make reservations by noon in order to eat anything except for buffet. Breakfast staff was excellent and bar staff was wonderful. Pool area is nice however very small. Beach area I would say is OK but very small and right next to A busy channel. If I was going there for the beach I would've been disappointed. Activities offered at resort were at least $10-$15 more per person on average. Overall the price was fair however I would've gladly paid more for better quality. It is approximately 45 minutes from airport however 10 to 15 minutes to downtown Cancun making it very convenient to get to activities. I would not choose to go back here as I have been to Cancun several times previous and I'm aware of the different levels of quality available for the same price.

Great place with a few quirks
This was our first all inclusive resort so i dont have a lot to compare it to. So let me start there. I will start with the good and then the not so good. We arrived Thursday Sept 14th. We paid for a shuttle service ahead of time to pick us up from the airport to to take us back to the airport. It worked out great and helps you bypass all the people harassing you through the airport trying to get you to do timeshares. Walked out and they were waiting for us. We got to the resort and checked in very easily. Everyone we encountered at the front desk was OVERLY NICE and Helpful. They spoke English very well which was a big help to us! When you check in you have a "concierge" which shows you a map, gives you a free gift, tells you where everything is in the resort and books your first dinner for you. Just know that they also try to send you to one of their sister resorts for a free breakfast and "Marketing" aka more timeshare stuff. But we told her NO GRACIAS and that was the end of that.. So it wasnt a big deal. Our room was ready when we arrived. It was clean and cold.. Just what you need in the mexican heat. We went to the buffet for lunch which was very good. The food was fresh and the waiting staff was very attentive. The buffet was open from i think 7am until 10pm. You can go in anytime for food. Every night they have a different theme for dinner. Nothing we had in there was bad. There are also 3 different restaurants you can make a reservation at. The first night our concierge made our reservation for us at the "seafood" restaurant. Which is actually an Asian "seafood" infused restaurant. So that is a little misleading. It was OK to me. My husband liked it. The Pool is great, its very spacious but it does get a little warm in the heat of the day. Someone is constantly cleaning it which is very reassuring especially knowing how warm the water could get. The beach area has tons of seating under the palm trees which is great. The view is beautiful. The beach area is small. But that was never an issue. I think we were there during a slower time so it wasnt overly packed in the water for us. I could see maybe for spring break that it might be an issue. They are out cleaning it every morning to get all the sea weed from the sand. The entertainment staff were excellent at their jobs! They kept everyone having a good time. There is a big calendar on the wall with the different activites and times. Sometimes they are in the pool sometimes the beach. We got lucky and were there for Mexican Independence day!! They went all out and the food, vendors and entertainment were PHENOMENAL!!! We did not eat in the Italian or Mexican restaurants because we were fine with the buffet. There is a bus stop right outside the resort which is 1USD per person to take anywhere. BE WARNED they drive CRAZY!! Like, you dont even have a chance to step in before they are pulling away, and same for getting off. But its very easy to navigate and the drivers were very helpful at figuring out our stops. I really have very little negative things to say about this resort. But i do have a few....1. The rooms could use a LITTLE upgrading. Some of the stuff seems old and warn. The bathroom tiles and walls seem like they have been patched and just look a little dirty. Im very particular about that stuff.. My husband could care less.2. The room smelled a little musty and it feels moist in the room. The sheets even feel damp. Im not sure what the cause of that is??3. Our room was facing a wall. I think it was the resort next door or some other building. But there is a HELICOPTER pad right there.. so randomly in the day when we were trying to nap, you get to hear this SUPER LOUD helicopter landing and taking off.. also, if you go to bed early.. beware because you can hear the nightly entertainment right from your bed. We solved these problems by bringing ear plugs with us.. so make sure and do that!!4.BOTTLED WATER!!! its HOT in Mexico so you need to hydrate all day!! They restock your fridge daily but i drink WAY more than they supplied. and when we asked for more at the bar, we were just told that we can only have whats in our room. 5. I hate that you have to pay for wifi.. I really think in an all inclusive resort, WIFI should be included. if these 5 things were fixed our trip would have literally been flawless.

 Good value for the money
We spent a couple nights there. The room was ready upon arrival, and the front desk receptionist was very quick and effective regarding check in process. The resort is not that big so it is easy to find everything. However, clear directions regarding restaurants' practices would be a bonus. Instead, a guest is given a list of restaurants and needs to figure out on it's own how they operate - either buffet or a'la carte. The coffee is available only at the snack bar on the second floor - wish there were more coffeemakers at least by the front desk

Well worth the time to take a look !!
32 years , 40 visits is what I have invested in Cancun. 30 at the Royal Resorts (Timeshare) 10 at different all inclusive. Of the ones I stayed at, this is the best. From being affordable to a complete resort.I have stayed here before and am coming again in 2 weeks. I also stayed at their sister resort (Tucancun) . This is much nicer !! I travel alone and never get bored, always something to do or someone to talk to. So take a second look, I think you should seriously think about staying here. Of course there are better resorts if you want to pay 2-4 times as much! I don't !!!

 Small but good!
We all enjoyed our stay. Good food, good service, clean hotel and beach. Hot water and cold a/c. Would not stay here if vacationing longer then 5 days as it is a very small resort, great for the price we got and very close to Cancun airport.

Great bargain..unless you're an obnoxious priviledged tourist...
Out of 5 stars I would give this resort 3.75. In general it felt that some people were just there to do their jobs. Did not get the sense of customer advocacy from the front desk/management. Staff is great. Entertainment staff was full of life trying to get people involved. They made it fun. Here's a heads up if you've never been to Mexico. Many resorts will say 'Tipping is included". That's pretty much a ploy to make the hotel choice look more attractive. Tourism is the main industry in Cancun. Tips are greatly appreciated by the staff. I ordered one too many Mojitos. At one point they would/could not make any more until the next day. They didn't give a reason and I didn't ask why. i just ordered vodka and water. After which it seemed like they were giving me less vodka as ordered more and more of those. Room was clean and had a great view. I spent 4 nights there on a solo trip to relax. Didn't leave the resort. The nightly shows were fun. This resort is geared towards family. I noticed its also possibly a favorite for fellow South Americans. And the food....Here is where the Ugly American tourist should definately stay away. YOU'RE IN MEXICO!!!!! If you're expecting items similar to American restaurants, you will be sorely dissapointed. With that said, I thought some of the food was really good at the buffet!! The fried fish was the bomb! Just a little lime over it Yum! The seafood pasta was also good. Ribs, Barbacoa, Roasted chicken. Understand that the food is made in a Mexican style...because you're in MEXICO!!!! Beans, tortilla chips, salsa all available to make a plate of Nachos for your self. Food choices somewhat repetitive, but overall good. Also a great small patio outside the buffet that seats about 15 people if you like to eat outside with a view of the ocean. For the price I paid in mid-Sept. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short 3-4 day get away. Beach (small), sun, drinks, a pool, good food, it would be an easy choice to come back if I could get a similar rate again. Here's a tip...Compare it staying in Vegas for a 3-4 day weekend...paying a $30+ resort fee/night and paying for meals. Hands down easy choice for me to come back here if the price is right.

 Pick another resort
While checking in to a room with a real terrace I had to show my email from Jennifer Lopez which assured it. Turns out she was standing right there!! And ignored the situation. I finally said 'hello Jennifer!' She pretended she wasn't there. Got the sales pitch even at the towel counter. The front desk crew was 'no can do' no matter what was needed. The activities staff seemed fun until 2 of them came over to talk to me about their personal issues and ask for a good review! I saved money to come on vacation and need to hear about your child issues and divorces? OMG!! Food is not good. It's whatever the a la carte restaurants have left over from the night before. I got a reservation at an a la carte restaurant for 6:30pm, 2 hours later asked to change to 7:00 or 7:30pm. Nope. No other time. I was traveling solo! One person! I only asked to change so I could go spend money at their spa! No hot water first day, don't know what maintenance did but fixed it. They were responsive. Bartenders not responsive even after tipping them (even though tipping is included.) Concierge only wanted to sell me excursions and not interested in helping me get a cab or dinner reservations at a restaurant. I had to leave a day early due to Hurricane Irma. They refused to help me change my shuttle etc. Spend the extra few hundred dollars and go somewhere else. I took the bad reviews in stride and thought 'can't be that bad.' It was. And I'm sure I'll be receiving the 'canned' response I see others get on here.

Wonderful stay at Occidental Costa Cancun
The resort was very clean and the staff very friendly & always to ready to help. The entertainment staff, as a whole, was awesome, especially the daily aerobics/aqua aerobics on the beach, plus the afternoon dance lessons. The beach is not big, but there's always room for everyone. The food was very delicious & yummy, in all of the restuarants, buffet or a la carte, even the 24 hr snack stop was always filled up with fresh foods.

 dissapointing
After staying in Tulum we were disappointed. Granted, the weather was cool and rainy which did not help. Food was not great. Could't find guacamole at all while we were there. The cocktails tasted corn syrupy. Lots of cigarette smoke in our room from neighbors smoking. Phone didn't work and lamp light was burned out. Thankfully these issues were resolved quickly once it was brought to their attention.

 Good value for the money
I deliberately chose a hotel that wasn't right in the thick of things that was all inclusive with beach access. The room was nice, I paid extra to have a nice terrace with a hammock and I think it was worth it not only did I overlook the pool but at night I had a birds eye view of the shows that were on it was awesome. The food while not fantastic was completely fine and there was always a selection and the drinks of course whenever you wanted them. The staff were helpful and they will arrange tours for you and the internet ended up being much cheaper on site than originally stated. If you don't want to spend a whole lot of money but still have a lovely location I think this hotel fits the bill.

Will wrote the full experience later and how the overall service including food beverages were based on the multiple rooms booked! Overall the beach is pretty small compared to most Cancun hotels unfortunatelyMore
