Amazing Vacation!
I travelled to Royal Solaris Cancun with my 2 teenage daughters Oct. 5-9, and we had the perfect vacation. The resort is not outdated like others have suggested - it is beachy, tropical, and amazing. The weather was incredible every day. I have stayed at a 5 star resort farther up the hotel zone, and the only differences with Royal Solaris were the lack of variety of alcohol in the rooms, no room service, fewer furnishings in rooms, and quieter night life-none of which affected the qualify of our stay. Pros:-The service is second to none-definitely 5 star. The staff remember everything about your preferences and are always smiling. A huge thank you for the personal and professional service from Ana and Alejo at reception, Erik, our concierge, Wilberth, Chulim, Escarlin, and Jose in Marco Polo, Adrian in Las Fuentes, Sylvestre and Victor from BD, and the Aquaworld reps at the towel bar. Despite the fact that I'm sure they were worried about their own families during the hurricane watch, the entire staff worked tirelessly to ensure we were taken care of and safe. This resort takes many safety precautions and we felt very comfortable. -The pools are amazing. Swim-up bar is fantastic, lots of lounge chairs, umbrellas and cabanas. -The beach is out of a magazine. Lots of lounge chairs, well maintained, safe, and well staffed (lifeguards, servers, maintenance). -Beds are comfortable and rooms have lots of storage. -Easy access to city bus, close to both malls and Aquaworld. Less than 5 min bus ride, or 15 min walk up the hotel strip to the public beach with the big CANCUN sign for pictures. Bus fare is $1 US per person, each way. -Safe area, very few peddlers on the beach, and feels safe at night. -Food is amazing, lots of variety, American and Mexican choices. Try all of the stations in La Fuentes, eat outside at Rosamarinas by the sea, and book reservations for Marco Polo as often as you can (they have gluten free and vegetarian menus as well as the daily themed menu). Outdoor snack bar, sushi, and pizza are delicious. Have the pizza! Cons:-This is definitely a family friendly resort, so if you are looking for a late night party atmosphere, it might not be for you. -There aren't any hooks or places to hang wet clothes in the room.-Furnishings are sparse (extra seating and luggage racks would be great). -Minimal alcohol in the rooms. Tips: -Ask for an ocean view upgrade-the large windows open all the way, giving you a spectacular, open-air ocean view. -Bring a large, insulated travel cup-the bartenders will make your drinks in it, so you don't have to keep waiting for single drinks-especially awesome for lounging in the pool. -If you plan to take a snorkelling excursion, have the BD tours or Aquaworld reps at the hotel call ahead to make sure there is visibility under the water. Sometimes waves and wind prevent you from seeing anything.
