You be the judge of my experience.
First off, I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews, or any review for that matter, I simply am putting what my experience was.Others have varying degree's of what the hotel is like, but this is what it was like for me.We arrived on a Saturday evening around 7pm, we were greeted with a cold towel but not by champagne. This was no big deal because none of us drink champagne.Water however would have been nice.We went to check in which was alright, but lady who checked us in took at least 3 phone calls whilst was with us talking from 10-20 mins each time.In my opinion I was not expect this from a 4 and half star hotel. Our room was alright we got two small double beds, not really enough room for two people in one bed.The swim out was okay but very small and in my opinion not worth the extra cost. The restaurants were always slow and not busy yet I always found that they made us wait at least 40 mins, when asked about this the staff basically said that they had a staff shortage on.Which was odd as they had conventions on.The food was bland and awful the same boring menu each day.The only thing that was lovely was the Asian restaurant.By day the pool was almost empty, except from a few loud and very drunk, people I know we are all on holiday but this is not what I expect from a hotel that charges so much per night and professes to be unlimited luxury? The Building work that is going on is awful too, you can hear it all day and most of the night.Yet there was no mention of this prior to booking or arrival. The drinks are not top shelf and the drinks are pretty poor.I have no issues with most places but even at a three star self service all inclusive the Coke and sprite is not poured directly from a bottle? that is used to serve lots of people.I felt like they could have put anything into those bottles, how do we know how fresh the actual drink was?To me that is not luxury. We stayed through Nate the storm/hurricane and the hotel overreacted by closing down all restaurants, and closing the room service which we ordered at 4pm and it never arrived by 6pm we called, to ask where it was and told that it was not open.It would have been nice to have been told. After complaining we found that our mini bar was not restocked, for two days (childish)The buffet was always poor and not much choice. The housekeeper was a man, and was always lovely. Some staff where rude and hit and miss. The golf was not good the course is not all inclusive it was pretty expensive so be prepared.Tipping, I know that staff do not make a huge wage, and I have no issues with tipping, but what I do not like is when staff wait for a tip. When that happens I refuse to tip as much or not at all.Like the amstar driver who took us to the airport, we had no money on us, until we went to the ATM, we only had a $20 bill and that was needed as a type1 diabetic who needed juice quickly! We explained and said that we were sorry but we could not tip due to having no moneyHe had the cheek say do you have money I can give you change? This made us even more angrier at the pure cheek.I am a seasoned luxury traveler and I love brands like sandals and Constance etc but I would never go to another secrets resorts until they sort out the staff and the inconstancy. The gift shop pier 27 is a joke $20 for pringles a snicker bar and a small bag of m&m's.also make sure if you use the business center computer's to log out of things as it keeps you logged in to google or facebook etc.

 Wonderful Resort!
My husband and I traveled to Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The customer service is top notch, views are beautiful, and you can easily travel over to the Dreams Resort, too. Highly recommend the bike tour that is available most mornings.

 Secret Gem
This resort is one of our very favorite in the AM resorts chain. Although the massive Dreams Playa Mujeres has been built next door, it does not take away from the beauty and charm of Secrets Playa Mujeres. The beach has been upgraded significantly since we stayed here 18 months ago. The pool is fantastic, the restaurants very good, and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. Pay the extra money and get the preferred club, it is well worth it. We had a very large group (13, all there for a family member's birthday!) and we were always able to sit together at the pool or at the restaurants.Himitsu was really fun, and Estaban was a fantastic hibachi chef. Estaban was also our sushi chef a few days later when we went back and his work there was also superb. We had the birthday dinner party in the Wine Cellar (the private room between the French and Italian restaurants) and we had a blast. There is a purchase minimum, but with our large group it was not a problem. The house wines are fair to good, but for this occasion we splurged for the high quality champagne and wine. Next we all traveled to Dreams to eat at the Brazilian restaurant "Gauchos" and the food was great and the servers alot of fun. The French restaurant and the Seafood restaurants were also very good.We love this resort and will surely be back again sometime soon!

 Sprawling resort
Vaca July 2017Room: initially we were taken to a room on the 3 floor facing the back of one of the restaurants . We were told it was ocean view but we could literally see only a speck of the ocean. They happily changed our room (x2) and we ended up with an amazing view of the ocean. Our snacks and mini bar were replenished without having to call down to guest services and our room was very spacious comfortable and clean.Food: buffet was limiting for me as a vegetarian, a couple of people tried to accommodate but it was more difficult than it should be. The specialty restaurants were lovely every night. Beach: clean and plenty of space to sit. Beach service was great . Someone's always offered us service. Nightly entertainment: dance club with DJ and live music depending on the night. It will be what you make of it. Live entertainment above board and casino night available. Gym: fantastic lay out of equipment and clean. However it is TOO HOT! We asked several times to have them drop the temp but they said it was not possible. How???‍♀️‍♀️* this resort is sprawling so you have to take golf carts to and from certain areas which can be occasionally a hassle but all in all they do a pretty good job of it.**psa: there is a hotel being built next door. So during the week the noise of construction can come through. Simply request a room Change we found that they were able to accommodate us. Also have an extra drink or two the noise surprisingly fades away!Hope this helps Olivia and Alvin

A Few Kinks but I'd Return
So ok, Secrets Playa was everything I hoped it would be. The service was exceptional and the food was wonderful. However, this resort should invest in mosquito nets for the rooms and the restaurants, that is literally my only complaint.More

 Very Disappointed
After having vacationed at multiple Secrets resorts and really loving them, Secrets Playa Mujeres was very very disappointing. I have never written a review but felt compelled because of my experience at Secrets Playa Mujeres. If I could give this resort ZERO stars I would. Mosquito's were a terrible problem despite the mosquito repellent provided by the resort. The number of drunk people in the pool area that continued to party until all hours of the night for several nights. I know it's a vacation and people really like to party and have a good time, I do too, but this went beyond the norm. The long wait at the restaurants for at best mediocre food. The alcohol is not Top Shelf and not good either. The pool area was dirty and the pool looked murky. The rude staff in the spa that completely ignored us. We upgraded to preferred guest but the staff there was rude too. Our room was cleaned every day and we were happy with house keeping but our mini bar was not restocked every day. We read the bad reviews before we left and contemplated changing resorts, but we thought that it really couldn't be that bad because we had been to other Secrets resorts. It was bad. I was expecting the same level of service and amenities, and SPM does not compare. In hindsight, I wish we would have changed our reservation.

 Shame about the noise
We arrived at the hotel on Saturday have a peaceful weekend until Monday, that's when the noise started breaking up concrete only feet away from the swimming pool area, this has gone on all day. I am somewhat disappointed as we were not informed of this on arrival at the hotel or by our tour operator. It is such a shame Nice hotel ruined by this noise.

 Amazing staff :)
10 of us stayed in September. Staff were excellent. We had some problems with the restaurants to start with and Roberto stepped in and looked after us personally every night. We couldn't ask for anymore from the staff. The entertainment team were excellent. Fernando was our favourite as he took time to remember all of our names and chatted to us daily. Also Ross, Ivan and Gus were amazing too.

 Another Great Secrets Vacation!
This trip was my husband and I's 8 AM Resort vacation and Secrets Playa Mujeres was amazing! The staff was absolutely wonderful and accommodating to our every need. We upgraded our room to a suite on the beach (room 1103) - it was the most comfortable and beautiful room. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The view from our balcony was breathtaking! It was so awesome to see the ocean whenever we wanted. We dined at all of the restaurants and loved each one. Being Preferred we enjoyed Oceana for both breakfast and lunch. The staff at the restaurant were so kind and inviting. The beach is stunning and you can walk as far as you want. I want to personally recognize the following wonderful staff members: Marlen & Alex - preferred cabana's, Saul, J.Ceasar, Tomas, Gabino and Garma - Oceana, Alfonso - Portifino, Darwin - Seaside Grill, Angel -Asian, Ruth, Elvia, Luis -pool, Brian who preformed at the piano bar!Thank you Secrets Playa Mujeres for another wonderful trip! If you are looking for a romantic and relaxing vacation - this is the resort for you! I would recommend it to any of my friends and family!

 Good but inconsistent
Currently staying here and whilst we are having a great time, I simply find that this place is very inconsistent in its service and whilst for the most part it's very good, there are many little things which mean it's a 4 star rather than the 5 as advertised. We are in building 2, and the lift has been broken for 5 of the last 7 days. No sign, no explanation, just press and hope it works! The nightlife is severely limited, and the place REALLY lacks a central place to meet, there are 2-3 bars but maybe 5-10 people in each. I don't think the hotel really knows what it's offer is at night. The drinks are hugely inconsistent and they should really invest in a cocktail making class for the staff at night. The drinks are sugary and inconsistent to say the least. We have had to ring on 3/10 days as our mini bar has not been refilled, leaving us with no water. On a positive the staff are amazing, they are so helpful and lovely. A special thank you to Ismael and Orlando for being so lively and welcoming at breakfast. Also to Alex and Raul in the pool area who are very friendly. The restaurants are all great, and the food is very good. We were here over the recent 'threatened' hurricane, and whilst the hotel absolutely acted in the safety and interests of all guests, I would say they hugely overreacted. Removing all sunbeds, and closing all restaurants (apart from the buffet) and removing room service was extreme and left many of us unhappy. There was no sense that they assessed the risk as the day progressed, rather that they had a plan and stuck to it. Regardless of the fact that days earlier had had much worse weather where all restaurants and room service was open. The communication over this time was really poor. It's such a shame as the staff and the grounds really make this place, and it has the potential to be amazing but the lack of consistency in the offer, the repairs and the communication means that it often misses the mark. Come here and enjoy, it's a definite 4 star and you will enjoy it but don't expect a true 5 star resort.

 Honest review
Let me start off by saying that most of the staff were great. The hotel in itself is a real let down. The pictures on the website have without a doubt been photoshopped. The sea is not as blue as it makes out.The rooms where clean we had a swim out room (normal not preferred) The room was lovely clean etc but I did notice a stale water smell in the bathroom.Housekeeping was amazing. The food well the buffet was a complete let down both for breakfast, and lunch. The dinner service at the restaurants was okay nothing special I got 3 pieces of ravioli at the Italian. The portion sizes are child size. The hotel has this weird water theme throughout, which causes a smell and when it rains it causes flooding. Now dreams next door is lovely and I was shocked to learn that dreams is the five star hotel and secrets only 4.It is off the beaten track and is out the way in a gated complex of 4/5 hotels. If you want to venture out it will cost you at least $20The hotel offers a boat to Isla mujeres at $50 ppOnce you are there golf cart is around $45 for the day.We did it our own way $20 to ferry terminal then $18 each return. We saw a sign on a cab saying uber is illegal.Back to the hotel room service is hit and miss sometimes it arrives sometimes not.My bigges issues is this resort is charging a fortune to stay here and in my opinion. You are not getting what you pay for.Go to sandals instead the golf there is included and not nearly $175Club rental is expensive and $15 for three balls!!The course smells like sewage. Please secrets sort it out, your staff are good people who need jobs your operations are pushing people away.

 Second trip a disappointment
Let me start out by saying my husband and I absolutely adored this resort for our honeymoon last year. So much so that we decided to book another trip for our anniversary this year (9/30-10/6). Sadly, something about this resort has changed. What once was the perfect romantic getaway, is now the complete opposite, mostly due to the behavior of the other guests. On multiple occasions, we felt so uncomfortable due to the amount of drunk rude guests around the resort. The pool area felt like spring break central. We couldn't even enjoy a nice romantic dinner in any of the restaurants because of the multiple sloppy drunks stumbling around and shouting obscenities across tables. Fortunately, the resort allows you to use the amenities at Dreams, where most of our time was spent. Never would have thought that a child friendly resort would be more quiet and peaceful than an adults only. Our room was great, we stayed in building 4 and had a great view of the ocean, but the construction outside was a bit noisy and housekeeping would randomly enter our room throughout the day and night while we were showering, in bed etc. The staff were friendly and pleasant, however we often felt rushed during dinner, especially on our anniversary. Sadly, I think this may have been our last trip to Secrets Playa Mujeres:(.

 Nice Place
Secrets Playa Mujeres is beautiful! The pools are clean and inviting - pool swim up bar is a nice touch. The layout chairs are very comfortable. The beach is beautiful and well kept. The restaurants (and even the lunch buffet) were delicious. The activities were also fun, and the staff is very kind.

Pretty average, but golfing not really all inclusive
Nice beach and some great staff at Secrets, but food was just ok and liquor not top shelf. Was a little disappointed with the advertising of all inclusive golf as it was $75.00 to rent a cart each time you golfed. I thought I would share a cart with another golfer and perhaps half price, but no still $75.00 each. Golf course was well kept. Best service was at Oceana Restaurant and best dinner was the Italian Restaurant. Heard the Hibachi Restaurant was real good, but never got to try it. Found the age of the travellers here was a little younger with many honey mooners and people celebrating ten year anniversaries or fortieth birthdays.

 Great resort!
Great resort overall. WONDERFUL staff! Everyone was very helpful and polite. The beach is fantastic and peaceful. No loud party music. The pool is the party place of you want more of that scene. Food was amazing at all restaurants... but loved Oceana the best. We worked out at the gym everyday and Viktor the personal trainer was AWESOME! We did bootcamp with him and he also trained us with weights a few days. He really made our trip! Highly recommend seeing him if you're at the resort for a great workout.

 Pick another resort
Good: The room was nice, the staff was friendly.Bad: Understaffed, long wait times at every restaurant, food was average (except breakfast buffet, which was good, too far from town... and oh yeah they tried to arrest my friend for stealing in the spa. Once they realized they had the wrong person they gave her a bottle of wine and a complimentary massage but threatening a guest when you don't have your facts straight is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Trust me the apology did not compensate for the fear she had of being threatened with jail time in Mexico. Now that we are back I have read other reviews and this is not the first time this hotel has done this to a guest. Would never go back.

Couldn't Wait To Leave Secrets Playa Mujeres
Please keep in mind that I am not one to take the time to due reviews, and this just so happens to be my absolute first review I have ever written on anything, but felt it was necessary due to the amount of money that people spend to visit these resorts. As new members of AMR Resorts Unlimited Vacation Program, my wife and I were excited about using one of our certificates, and take our first trip back to Cancun as members. We decided to stay 6 days in Cancun...3 days @ Secrets Playa Mujeres, and 3 days right next door @ Dreams Playa Mujeres. Since we had stayed @ Dreams before and loved the property we decided to stay @ Secrets the first 3 days. BIG MISTAKE! Don't get me wrong its a beautiful property however the problems we encountered at Secrets were simply unacceptable for a property of this caliber. When we arrived on property we were very pleased with the warm welcome, our check in, our room was ready, and our pleasant golf cart ride to our room. Our 1st problem wasn't until we arrived at our room 3212 that the problems began. As we entered our room it was beautiful as expected, however there was a very strong MOLD smell with a mixture of air freshener in the room. The smell was also very strong in the pillows and sheets on the bed. When we informed them of the problem no one came to inspect. That evening upon returning to our room the Moldy smell was stronger. We noticed that they had turned down our bed and there were pillows that had been transferred from the couch to the bed, and it was in that moment that we had noticed mold on the couch pillows that were now on the bed. We did call the front desk and ask to have all the pillows and linen be changed asap because of the mold and smell, or move us to another room. A house keeping crew did arrive and switched everything out for us..The mold smell went away. Our 2nd problem was with the coffee shop. The coffee was never hot or fresh that came out of the coffee pot, and if you asked for a hot cup of coffee they would just inject the cold or warm coffee with steam. This happened on numerous occasions. On our 2nd day I was in the coffee shop after breakfast to get a cup of coffee, again it was cold and as the young lady was preparing to inject steam into the coffee I asked her if she could make a fresh pot of coffee which she did and I thanked her and I enjoyed my cup of hot coffee. Now this is were my coffee problem gets worst and I finally had to complain to someone. After dinner that night we went to the coffee shop (cocos) to get a hot cup of coffee, once again I was given a cold cup of coffee. I explained that the coffee was cold and could I get a hot fresh cup! She started to inject steam and I stopped her and requested a fresh cup of hot coffee. My wife and I could not believe what she said next. She told us that the coffee pot was broke! I explained that it wasn't broke this morning when they made fresh coffee. What she said next floored me. She said the coffee pot broke one hour after we left. I explained to her that she was not even present this morning when I was there so how could she possibly know what time we were there? I had enough I called the front desk to get accurate information and wanted to know if in fact the coffee machine was broke. They informed me that the food and beverage manager would call me back, which he never did. We returned to get some coffee the next evening after dinner. We encountered the same cold cup of coffee, this time however when we asked the same young lady for a cup of fresh hot coffee we realized that the reason there was never any fresh hot coffee was because she didn't know how to operate the coffee machine. She had to call someone from another restaurant to show her how to operate the coffee machine. At that point we realized that Secrets was not training there people properly. Our 3rd problem was with the tablet in the room that never seemed to work properly. Although it was always fully charged it always managed to cut off every 5minutes and reboot itself. Our 4th problem was with house keeping not cleaning our room. Although we would be gone all day, we expected to return to a clean room, not so! We had to call in order for our room to be cleaned. Our 5th problem was the hot tub in our room took forever to fill up, there was hardly any water pressure. Our 6th problem was that the supposedly Top Shelf drinks seemed to be watered down and didnt taste like Top Shelf. And 7th the pools in comparison to Dreams seemed to be dirty and murky. I can go on about a few other problems but I won't. After 2 days my wife decided to look @ reviews just to see if it was just us, or was anyone else experiencing the same problems that we we're encountering at Secrets Playa Mujeres. Wow! And to our amazement we we're not the only ones which led us to believe that this is an ongoing problem with this property. We we're looking so forward to leaving Secrets and checking in the Dreams Playa Mujeres next door. We will never stay at this property again however because we are in the Unlimited Vacation Program we do plan on staying at and experiencing other AMR Properties. We did however enjoy our stay at Dreams next door. I only wish that I had not waisted my Unlimited Vacation Certificate on Secrets Playa Mujeres.

Company Incentive Trip Sept 28-Oct 1
All in All, very nice stay. Took a group of employees 28 to this resort to reward them for their efforts. We have done other resorts in Playa del Carmen and chose SPM based on some personal recommendations and reviews. Hotel arranged for private check in for all of us in one of their meeting rooms which was very speedy and made for a great first impression. Nadia, the group coordinator, is amazing and went above and beyond to accommodate us at every turn. Pool and beach area are very nice and well serviced with hard working servers. Grounds are well maintained and rooms are top notch. Took a group of 10 to play golf at the Playa Mujeres Golf Club. Although it rained that day, had a great time and the course is beautiful. The agreement that was put together by Travel Impressions stated "1 free round/day per person" I was notified after making the reservation a week before arrival, that only included the greens fee. Not a huge deal, just know that if you play in the morning and are renting clubs, you're looking at about $130 pp. Food and drinks on the course are not included in the all inclusive, but very reasonable.Food at most of the restaurants is good, wasn't impressed at all with the seafood restaurant Oceana for dinner, breakfast there for preferred club members was amazing.

Great time at secrets playa mujeres !
We loved our 5 night stay at this resort. We were greeted with champagne and friendly workers. Our room was very clean and had an amazing view. The entertainment staff always had something fun to do like beach volleyball, pool volleyball, water aerobics, and Zumba. Dinners were great, our favorites were Oceana seafood, and the hibachi grill. We went to desires to dance at night and had a blast with lots of fun music. We did not expect top shelf drinks but they had it all. The spa was AMAZING and worth every penny. We will be going back for sure!

Second visit to Secrets Playa Mujeres
We just returned from our second visit to this resort and had a very enjoyable week. The weather was great and the resort was very nice. We were greeted with a cool towel and glass of champagne and then whisked down to the preferred club for a speedy, well organized check-in. We had a beautiful ocean view (2431)suite and the ac was top notch! As always the staff was outstanding-friendly, accommodating and always happy to please. The main reason for this review is to give special attention to those who were particularly outstanding. The bar tender Santiago in the Rendezvous Bar was amazing-creative, friendly and made beautiful, delicious drinks! He even made a sculpture out of an apple to greet guests at the bar. Artemio in the Portofino restaurant was an outstanding waiter. He offered perfect recommendations, and even had the chef make us a special pasta dish that was terrific. We also really enjoyed the service from Luis, a waiter at La Patio who was attentive and served everything with a smile-nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for an enjoyable week Secrets Playa Mujeres.

 Lovely honeymoon
After reading some reviews on here I was sceptical, however from my own experience I can honestly say I thought it was fab, we didn’t leave the resort for ten days, the food was great, especially the French restaurant & the hibachi, but all the others were nice too! Lovely hotel, lovely rooms, lovely staff, can’t complain & we will be back

 Good but not great stay
Just returned from our 5th (or maybe 6th?) stay at Secrets Playa Mujeres. To preface this review, I will say that we were scheduled to go to Secrets Cap Cana in Punta Cana on Sept. 20, but our flight was cancelled due to Hurricane Maria. We managed to get our flights and reservations changed to SPM at the last minute so we could continue with our planned vacation time. I'll start with the positive. Karina in the preferred club/VIP desk is a doll. She is an asset they should utilize further. The others at the preferred check in, not so much. When we first started going to SPM the thing we loved the most was the beautiful, quiet beach that went on forever. We could walk for miles without seeing anyone. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The beach is still very nice but with the new resort being built directly beside SPM and all the jet skis and parasailing traffic, it's not so peaceful and quiet. That's good and bad, depending on how you look at it. The Bali beds for preferred guests are a big plus! The workers at this resort are great! Can't name everyone that was awesome, but our favorites were Hugo at the pool bar, sweet Darvy the pool waiter, Blanca the beach waitress, and our most favorite Fidel at Himitsu. Our biggest complaint was the incompetency of the preferred check in staff. We inquired about upgrading our junior suite to a master suite when we arrived on Wednesday. We were told nothing was available and to check back with them Saturday morning to see if something would be available Monday or Tuesday. We checked Saturday morning and we're told no upgrades would be available because guests were transferring their reservations to SPM from Punta Cana because of the hurricane. Okay fine. Then the next morning we received a phone call from preferred check in staff telling us someone was checking out of their ocean front master suite early due to personal family matters and we could have that suite. We just needed to pack our belongings up and the bell boy would transfer our bags after we went to the preferred club and paid for the upgrade. Okay, great! At least half of our stay would be in a master suite! So we packed everything and left our bags by the door and headed to the preferred club to pay for our upgrade.....only to be told once we were there that the gentleman with the family issues had decided to stay after all and we could not transfer to the master suite. Frustration kicked in and I'm sure they could tell how frustrated we were. They finally offered us an ocean front junior suite with two double beds they could push together with a plunge pool for the remainder of our stay. Had we not already packed everything we would have stayed in the room we were already in, but we decided to go ahead and move the the ocean front junior suite. The room was just like our former room with the exception of the plunge pool and the large bed, which was two full sized beds pushed together. The air conditioning did not work well at all. We called maintenance and he spoke little to no English, but was able to tell us the temp would not go below siete quatro. Well, 74 degrees is not very cool when it's in the upper eighties outside and you've been in the sun all day. Shows are always pretty good. Tried to have dinner at Portofino a couple times but it was closed. When we did finally have dinner there, it smelled like sewer in the restaurant. Also dined at Gaucho, the Brazilian restaurant at Dreams, and it was decent. Went to El Patio and were given a buzzer since they said it would be a 30 min wait. Had a drink in piano bar while waiting, then when our buzzer finally went off we went into the restaurant and only 4 tables were occupied. Not sure why there was a 30 min wait when the place was almost empty?! Our favorites are Himitsu and of course the sushi bar. Since we were there last time they have changed it so you have to have reservations to sit at hibachi table. That doesn't seem like a good move as only 4 people showed up at our table. I'm guessing the others flaked on their reservations. Room service is always good even if it takes quite a while. All in all, we still like SPM and may return at some point, but there are way too many other places to see.

beautiful resort - weak drinks - poor food
The Excellent - beautiful resort - pools, beach everything. Plenty of lounge chairs both at the many pools and the beach. Plenty of umbrellas, and huts for those who want to limit their exposure. Crystal clear blue green ocean at the westerns edge of the Caribbean. The Very Good - upgraded to an ocean view suite - beautiful room:Jacuzzi tub, twin sinks, shower and separate "water closet". Balcony was a bit small but room was spacious, with desk, sitting area, king size bed and sofa. BTW - Breakfast buffet was plentiful and the omelet chef was first rate. The Good - The staff was friendly but not everyone spoke English & my Spanish is limited to good morning, good night and counting to 4The Poor - The dinners - in general dinner was poor, other than the standout Hibatchi, (which reservations were required). Portions were small (even by all inclusive standards) and deserts were uneatable. The Terrible - the drinks were weak, and I am absolutely positive the liquor was cut - the person I travelled with is a one and done drinker and she drank all day with no effect.

 The Honeymoon of Our Dreams
Our honeymoon was spectacular. We were upgraded right away to an ocean-view room. We were waited on hand and foot. The service was absolutely incredible. We felt so pampered and taken care of. We would definitely go again! Our favorite employee was named Ruth. She served us our drinks every day at the pool.

Our first trip to Mexico, glorious honeymoon we will be back!
Due to adverse weather in our original destination, we were moved to Secrets Playa Mujures in Mexico last minute. Well all we can say is were so glad that happened. This place has been nothing but amazing. On our arrival our suitcases were taken from the transfer and taken straight to our room for us, we were given champagne and the hotel was explained to us. we were given over £200 in vouchers to use towards the spa, a romantic dinner for two and towards wine off the exclusive list. They congratulated us for recently getting married and took us to our room, the bell boy showed us how everything worked in the room, he showed us were all the light switches were, how to use the safe, coffee machine and explained that the all inclusive minibar (filled with bottled coke, sprite, fruit juice and corona) was refilled everyday. He also showed us to the in-room tablet - which gave further information about the hotel, excursions, internet access and games etc. he also explained that there is 24/7 room service which could be ordered via the tablet or telephone. Our room was beautiful it had a king-size bed with white cotton linens which were changed daily on our request (however they are trying to be green and ask that you requests the sheets are changed only when necessary which i think is important). we had a huge wardrobe with a safe, iron and ironing board in it. There is a laundry service for your clothes and shoes but we didn't need to use this. In the room there are lots of plug sockets for all you electrical items (you will need an adapter if travelling from the UK). There is also a USB port by the bed so you can charge all your devices. there was an Ipod docking station with a 24 hour clock in the room too. There was a second table and large sofa in the room. Our balcony was a good size with table and chairs, a beautiful view of the sea and the pool. it has a mosquito net leading from the balcony to the room if you don't want the door shut. (now the mosquito are keen out there and its definitely worth purchasing a bug repellent - we brought one with us form the UK but it didn't seem to work - although i get bitten wherever i go so maybe they just love me - i did buy the local spray called "OFF" which seemed to help a lot more). Our bathroom had a separate toilet, shower with two different heads (one of which is a beautiful rain shower which was just lovely). there are two sinks and a huge spa bubble bath (which fits two people in easily). int he room there was shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, sun lotion and bug spray. There were new slippers and towel bath robes which were a lovely touch. The TV had good channels (recommend 29 and 31 for film buffs).Another nice touch was the secret hatch which meant you could put things in it or have things delivered to the room without being disturbed or interrupted - however when staff did knock at the door they were very discrete. When we told them we were on honeymoon they put a really cute banner on the door which was a sweet touch. The room is fully air-conditioned and can easily be adjusted to your preferred temperature. The pool is great it has several sections to it. some of the sun beds (all rattan and very comfortable) were part submerged in the water which was really good on the hotter days. each morning a fresh towel was rolled up and placed on each sun bed so you don't need to worry about taking towels to this hotel. There are kabanahs for people seeking shade and lots of sun parasols too. There are two bars both of which serve premium spirits and make pretty much anything you ask for. The pool has waiters and waitresses around it who take your order while you swim or sun bathe and deliver them back to you. they were really good fun, very helpful and professional. i would like to mention one pool waiter - Darvelio (Darvy) who was such good fun very attentive, polite and worked very hard each shift! Hotel secrets has a sister hotel called dreams and you can use any of their facilities too which include, pools, bars, lazy river slides and restaurants (however dreams is not adult only and it was a lot noisier with all the children there). September seems to be a good time to come as the hotel is a little quieter and you have your pick of the pool seats throughout the day. The pool leads directly to the beach which is private and secure, there are lifeguards and yet another bar. the beach also has waiter and waitress service, towels a choice of sunbeds and kabanahs. the beach was very clean with white sand, there is a little bit of sea weed when you first enter the water but after this it is clear and beautiful the water is warm and lovely. there are beautiful views of Isla Mujures from here, you can also get involved in parasailing, jet skiing and other water based activities from the pier just outside our hotels. When leaving the beach there were two warm showers to rinse off the sand before heading back to the hotel. The views truly were stunning. The service here is like nothing i have ever encountered or experienced before. all the staff genuinely want to help you and ensure you have the best time. All of the lobby staff, buggy drivers and the room service and house keeping staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. In the market place cafe where breakfast and buffet lunch are served each day, we were delighted with the service from all staff in there but particularly the service given to us by Erik (who we became very fond of and sad to leave) and Ernesto who was always very accommodating and happy. in fact all the staff looked happy and appeared to enjoy their jobs! the staff are so attentive, very polite and so helpful. there is often harpist playing in the morning which i really enjoyed and was a such a good way to start the day.The food is great for breakfast, there is so much to choose from, it literally has something for everyone. My husband particularly enjoyed the omelettes that were made to order and cooked in front of you. the food here was great, there is Mexican, Italian, French and an Asian hibachi restaurant and a grill by the pool. most of the restaurants have a dress code so gentleman need to wear long trousers and collared shirts whilst ladies need to dress relatively smart (nice dress or smart top and trousers). you can also use the restaurants at dreams hotel but we didnt do this as we enjoyed the food at secrets so much, we heard very good things about the steak house and the Brazilian. every few days they set up a restaurant around the pool for some Al -Fresco dining which included BBQ and Mexican dishes, this was nearly always accompanied by some form of musical entertainment, be it a singer or various different styles of musical bands. There is a broad selection of wine all inclusive but you can also upgrade to a more expensive bottle if you fancy it. The entertainment team were fantastic offering a number of different activities during the day and into the evening. they were so fun and passionate and was really fun getting to know them. there is a film under the stars every evening (this is usually quite a recent film too), there was a theater were shows were regularly performed and a sports bar that turns into a club and is open until 1am i think. this showed lots of sports and played good music it also had 2 snooker tables too. The entertainment team had some really cool activities to try like tequila tasting, cigar rolling master class (which was really cool to learn even if you dont smoke), Mexican cooking, bike rides, a poker nights, table tennis, rodeo bull, aqua aerobics, aqua zumba, and so much more. Ross and Fernando from the team were great fun and really encouraged us to get involved in things without being overbearing. they made us laugh everyday. Ross even taught us Spanish which we really enjoyed too.We went on several excursions which included, Exlor Fuego, Chich-chen-itza, Coco Bongos, Xenses & Xel-ha. We anjoyed them all but really recommend Exlor Fuego, Coco bongos and Kel-ha. there is so much to do that you could go back 3 times to mexico and still not have done everything. we were given champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room and offered a romantic dinner for two by the beach, due to it raining meant we had to move it inside. so instead we had our five course romantic dinner served to us in our bedroom, it was so romantic our waiter was very discrete and very helpful. the meal was divine. The weather has been fantastic with occasional rain showers that last half an hour but it still stays warm and sunny. don't be put of by hurricane season, it hasn't affected us at all, we also had 2 earthquakes that hit mexico city during our stay but again no effect on us at all. The hotel and and its grounds were very well maintained and it was very clean everywhere. The hotel is very safe with private beach and gated entrance. This trip truly has been amazing and couldn't have wished for more from our honeymoon as it has been fantastic and i don't think i can do it justice at all in describing the level of excellence there is here. we have enjoyed it so much and cannot wait to come back here in the future, we give Secrets 5* and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for some adult only luxury! thank you so much for the best holiday ever!

 Enjoyable Anniversary Stay
My husband & I spent 4 nights here a couple weeks ago. We had a great time! The staff was excellent throughout the resort. The food was delicious! We found a hidden gem, Oceana Restaurant, for lunch. This restaurant is listed and there are signs for it but it's kind of tucked away. A lot of people miss it, so glad we didn't. Our favorite waiter there was Tomas. He was fabulous, going above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The ceviche is a must! Our next favorite restaurant was Himitsu. It's such a fun evening at the Teppanyaki! The pool wait staff was terrific as well! Our favorite bartender was Darvelio, aka Darvy. He would see our drink getting low and bring us another. Knowing it was our anniversary, him and his coworker, Inocencio, made us 2 shots and wrote Congratulation 22 Anniversary in chocolate on a plate. Darvy made a rose out of a napkin. It made our day! The entertainment staff does a terrific job. You can get involved if you want or sit back and watch. We enjoyed getting to know Sexy Ros. He told us about Casino night, which was so much fun! At the end of the evening, I had the most pesos and won a bottle of Tequila. There are plenty of pool and beach chairs. If you want an umbrella in an area that doesn't already have one, just ask and they'll put one in. The resort is clean, our room smelled so fresh when we arrived and after it was cleaned each day. We were pleasantly surprised that our room not only had a view of the gardens but the ocean too. All the rooms have a view of the ocean, even if it's in the distance. We liked having access to Dreams and the restaurants there too. Isidro at Gaucho Grill was a fantastic waiter. It was nice not having to wait long for the golf cart. The ConsWe had a private dinner on the beach that was expensive and not at all worth it. We were disappointed as is considered private but there are 4 tables near each other on the pool deck. I could hear the other couples conversations! The service was super slow we got up and left before dessert. Another con is the soda is kept warm in bottles behind the bar. When I'd ask for a rum and coke, the ice would melt so quickly. It wasn't an enjoyable drink. They need to chill the soda! The last con the entertainment schedule was posted on a board not printed and given to the guests. No one told us to look at the board, we found it. The entertainment staff did walk around the pool trying to remind guests of the afternoon and evening happenings. All in all we had a very enjoyable anniversary stay! I would definitely recommend this resort to my customers!Jeanine from Cruise Planners/Effortless2Travel

some good, some not so good.
We just came back from here (September 13-23 2017). We were supposed to go to Secrets Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. But that was cancelled by the hotel.Initially I was not impressed with the resort. But by the end of our stay there I was more favourably inclined. Nevertheless, I would not return to this resort.GoodThe staff are excellent. Always smiling. Always helpful. The entertainment team work very hard. The rooms are big, clean and well laid out.The pool area is nice. The bar service around the pool is excellent. Darvy (one of the staff) would refresh our drinks unprompted, once he got to know what we liked. He gets 5 stars. There is an infinity pool. The water is only 12" deep at the edge. The beach is very nice. Sand is fine and not a lot of seaweed. The gym is well equipped. The resort is next door to Dreams and there is a shuttle between the two (golf buggies). Not so goodThe resort is split into two areas, with vegetation between them. Reception, the sports bar/disco, gym and half of the restaurants are in one area. The room, pool, beach and the other restaurants are in the other area. It takes about 5 minutes to walk, but there is a shuttle between them. The architect must have had an off day.The resort is right beside Dreams. It does not compare favourably. The food in the restaurants is not as good as in other Secrets resorts. The evening entertainment is not as good as other resorts. Almost no live music. Certainly nothing to dance to.There is a nightly disco in the sport bar. You had better like Bruno Mars and 50 cents. We did not have one but the ground floor rooms with their own pool are not recommended. They are surrounded by big bushes which obscure any view of the beach or the rest of the resort. But not enough to make them truly private :-|.

 Nice hotel
The hotel was nice. I stayed for two weeks in September to celebrate a very special birthday. The staff were all lovely and worked really hard. We had a swim up room that had two double beds as I was staying with a friend. We had requested a room with two double beds but when we checked in all the rooms were taken. We were told to go back to reception the next day and hopefully they would find us a room the next day. Our bags were taken to the room for us and they kindly brought in a trundle bed. The next day we got moved to a new room and they couldn't have been more helpful. Some of the restaurants were great and the buffet breakfast is a fun affair with far too unlimited mimosas drunk for breakfast the first morning! There are only a few downsides to this hotel that not many people appear to have mentioned. 1) the mosquitos are horrendous and I have never been bitten like it. This is in no way the fault of the hotel but it would be nice to be able to buy some spray the room mosquito repellent, to use before going out at night. The hotel do provide spray yourself repellent but to buy a longer lasting one it cost us $17 for a can from the shop!!2) the noise from other guests. I understand that it is easier to clean and repair not to mention deal with flooding if everything is "marble." What this means for a guest is that you can hear every time one of your neighbors scrapes a chair or walks up a corridor. Heaven forbid they should decide to hold a conversation in the corridor.3) my last grumble was the smell. They pride themselves on their ecological stance but what they don't tell you about is the stagnant water smell. Some days it just smells damp and like it needs a good paint but on others it made me gag all the way up the corridor and up to the first floor. I think this is why they have such a mosquito problem as there is a lot of vegetation and standing water. As stated the hotel was nice. I would have been really upset if I was having my honeymoon there but as long as you're not looking for something luxurious you'll be very happy.

Having the most amazing time here . The staff has been so accommodating to any and all needs . The food is delicious. Cigar class was really cool , the spa is absolutely amazing . The grounds are beautiful , rooms are very clean . We can't wait to come back again and we have not even left yet ! Only suggestion I have is for men to bring long pants !! We were not aware of the dress codes in resteraunts so my husband had to keep wearing the same pair of pants . I am so surprised at any negative reviews . Truly , the staff here is so awesome .

 Perfect Honeymoon!
I am blown away by all of the negative reviews because my husband and I, LOVED IT. You do have to take golf carts from the room area to some of the restaurants, spa, shops & gym, but it's super easy. There a staff members driving back and forth at all times :) Food was great! I am vegetarian and they were super accommodating. We were also able to be "kids" and go to the dreams resort next door. They have two big slides that we enjoyed a lot. At Secrets, the pool is amazing! Always being cleaned each morning and the drinks are great. Room was perfect as well. We also thought the beach was really great, but I guess we aren't overly picky. Would def go back!!

40th Birthday Surprise Getaway! This resort did not disappoint!
First let me start by saying we really LOVE Secrets resorts. We have been to many of them and usually have a great experience (Side note: I have a background in the hospitality industry... grew up only going to Marriott's and Ritz etc so I am a really tough critic). So, with that being said, it is not the most "grand" hotel, some of them have spectacular lobby areas where you pull up and you are immediately "wowed". This property is not like that, but it is very well kept and has some stunning views. It is right next door to the Dreams Playa Mujeres which is very "grand" with a beautiful view from lobby and was all around impressive (we actually preferred Dreams swim up bars). You can take a golf cart over or just walk. The other different thing is that you take a golf cart from the main lobby to the actual hotel, the spa and gym and a few other restaurants are a golf cart ride away. Its not an inconvenience, they have it down to a quick science! The rooms are nice, not my favorite decor, but still very nice and clean. Our favorite part of this trip was the FOOD AND SERVICE! We have never experienced such great service. Everyone was so polite and caring. We never saw anyone who didn't say hello with a smile. We enjoyed sitting by the pool overlooking the ocean and having the wonderful Marcelya serve us endless drinks. She didn't miss a beat! Every time we turned around she was there with a fresh drink and a smile. Look for her if you go! The food everywhere was amazing. The French restaurant and Brazilian steakhouse were our favs plus the lunches at World Cafe.If you are familiar with the Preferred club at Secrets, I don't think this property is one that warrants paying more for the upgrade. There is just one small Preferred lounge just off of the lobby bar. Some hotels there is a separate Preferred pool/building, not at this hotel. However, Pedro in preferred lounge was the most wonderful bartender! We went down to see Pedro for a pre-dinner drink every night before dinner just to see him and say hi.Then we would head over to see Moises at the Piano Bar (although he was just filling in, he usually works at Dreams), he was equally as wonderful and makes a great martini! Few others to mention: Jorge is the Assistant Food & Bev director. He overheard us questioning the bar tender on some tequillas and stopped what he was doing to give us a full tequilla history and tasting lesson. Orlando at World Cafe was a pleasure during both breakfast and lunch!

Everything was amazing! A distance from the airport but well worth it. Restaurants were good. Entertainment team worked really hard and were very fun. Loved the big outdoor screen projector where you could watch games and socialize.More

Expectations - some met, some not!!
Let's start with travel agent --- beach bum justin!! Can't say enough of his quality service every year!! It is very easy to book with him and I would always go to him first to see if he could meet our needs before looking for alternatives!!Private transfers are the way to go for sure!! So --- secrets playa mueres! Some good some not so good. After staying at secrets maroma 2 years ago and excellence last year I guess our expectations for service was high. We even splurged on upgraded room for preferred club hoping this would ensure quality --- this was not the case, at least for us. THe room was average --- and swim out pool much smaller then Maroma. No biggy we didn't use it anyways but no lounge chair to really enjoy Patio and when I asked if someone could bring me a pool chair they told me no. Upgraded mini bar was shot sized alcohol bottles --- only 3 and not always restocked (excellence provided 3 full bottle of top shelf for their club members) The room although only 3 years old seemed older than that --- run down and not as clean as I have experienced in the past --- basically attention to details was marginal at best in many areas of the hotel ex.they were under construction around pool area, then when they moved the construction to the front area where people come and go constantly they neglected to put signs up and a lady fell in a hole trying to get through. Beach service concierge non existent except to obtain our room number --- also preferred club, not once did anyone get our towels or ask us how we were doing the whole time we sat on beach. The beach chairs and beds never looked refreshed from day before and several times towels hadn't even been restocked for us to retrieve. Drink service was better but limited --- and one would think we'd have better drinks for upgrading to preferred club, didn't seem to be the case. No frozen drinks on beach --- no food on beach. Pool service was much better, Marcela is an above average waitress and really wants to make sure your taken care of. Entertainment staff was awesome and always trying to get people to join in the fun! Service in restaurants was always exceptional!! We didn't find bad wait staff! The perk of preferred was being able to have hot breakfast at oceana! The Buffett gets tiring and many times food is not hot or has been sitting for a while! Otherwise food in general was pretty good in the restaurants ---i prefer them over the buffets. El patio and portifino was fabulous and felt like we were eating at 5 star restaurants. I'm not sure we would return to this secrets---however we would probably try another one at a different location, or go back to maroma! The service was good in some places and not so good In others --- I guess from our previous experiences we just expected more consistency with the service! Cindy H

Beautiful Resort...But please turn the AC on in some venues!
For me, it's the little things that make or break a trip. My wife and I traveled with 3 other couples. First the positive:*As is typical in the all-inclusive resorts we've experienced, we were greeted at the shuttle with cool washcloths and a glass of champagne, while our bags were taken to our rooms. *One of the couples are Preferred Club members, which meant we were driven the the Preferred Club below, where we checked in in the comport of AC, appetizers, and top-shelf beverage options.*Our rooms were the one-story suites facing the ocean in the curved section. It is visible form the resort's aerial photo on this website. Very spacious, quiet, comfortable, and each with a private plunge pool (think 10' x 15' x 3.5' deep salt water pool. Simply fantastic*Double rainfall showers and Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom (did not use Jacuzzi).*Powder room in the main area, which allowed me to rise early and not disturb my wife. *A tablet made it easy to order coffee service or room service around the clock. *Three daily visits by housekeeping kept our room in top shape.Meals were fantastic, and the surprise of the trip was the last night, when we went for the Mexican restaurant. In my experience, Mexican at Mexican resorts leaves a lot to be desired, but this was the best meal of the stay. The mole is not to be missed.*Although we went during hurricane (low?) season, the beach beds were always available for all 4 couples, and most of the beach chairs and umbrellas were vacant all day.*My wife thoroughly enjoyed a massage and facial at the spa. Reasonably priced for a resort.*The contract photographer that does portraits did a fantastic job for us in about 40 minutes. Israel was our guy, and quite good. We bought them all on a thumb drive so sort through at home, instead of picking out $17 images to keep. They will discount quite a bit for all. I felt is was reasonable for quality and time spent with us. They were not retouched, but we received both RAW and jpeg version that we can edit ourselves.*I'll put this in the positives, although it's usually a negative. I asked for an appointment to get pricing on the Preferred Club (one couple was already). I offered 30 minutes which turned into 45. When I said we'd have breakfast to discuss it and return in an hour, they were gracious about it. When I returned alone to decline, they made one other offer, but it was really quite simple and painless to decline. I was prepared for a very pushy salesperson.*In a mostly serious comment, we had zero issues with tainted alcohol while there. This family of resorts was one specifically named recently as having one issue with it. We stayed at that resort last year, so we were a bit sensitive to the potential problem. Before leaving, I read reviews of this place on this site, and found zero negative comments. Now the "little things":*The rainfall shower heads "blew up" twice while we were there. Once, a stream of water shot out the side, above the shower glass and soaked the toilet room adjacent. They were there in 5 minutes to repair it successfully (good), but that it did it twice in 5 days means this is a recurring problem that should be addressed.*The night club (aka sports bar), and most of the enclosed restaurants barely had any AC on. I suppose you can expect 85+ degrees and 90-ish% humidity there, but they also require men to be in closed shoes and long pants. We live in a dry climate (Colorado), and was simply unbearable for me to enjoy a meal in some of these spaces. One night in the night club was enough. Everyone was drenched. I asked the bartender about the AC and he shrugged his shoulders. A Sunday afternoon football game in the same space was cooler, but still uncomfortable. The guestrooms, buffet, and Preferred Club had great AC.*The shower and guestroom tile are incredibly slick when when wet. Even the tile around the plunge pool got a bit scary. Just be alert. *Meal service was a bit slow. Whether two or 8 of us, it felt long. Dinners were always two hours from start to finish, which was 30 minutes longer than necessary, even with great company. *Golf (not sure if it's the same company, but the entrance sign says "golf and resort") was a bit disappointing. Very reasonably priced, but largely understaffed. While they can't control the climate, it was the HOTTEST round of golf I've ever played. We stopped at 14 holes. Inland humidity was awful.None of the negatives would keep me away next time, but my comfort in restaurants is pretty important. I mention them in hopes that management will read and address them for others. This would be a rating of 5 if the AC was better in the common areas.

Just WOW. Don't Believe the Negative Reviews! Just go. NOW!! You Won't Regret It!!
Let me begin by saying that I question the people who leave negative comments/reviews on here, and also curious on who ties their shoes every day! I won't lie, I was a bit concerned after reading those reviews but after experiencing superb customer service while staying the week of Sept. 11th I was blown away with how much they catered to us, and they took a lot of pride at doing so. We have stayed at Secrets Maroma in the past every year, but I think we will keep coming back here instead! The layout of the resort was not even an issue at all! We took the golf cart over to Dreams and enjoyed the resort next door as well! A very special shout out to Paula, the poolisde waitress for always making sure our glass was always fresh and full! Another huge shoutout to Julio Cesar Ramirez Ramirez in the Oceana, he always took great care of us even with my aching tooth! His customer service was top notch to say the least! We will definitely be back to this resort!

Amazing visit trip with amazing friends.
First off, I would like to say that this is my 8th time visiting Cancun/Playa Mujeres/Riviera Mayan area. I've always stayed at all inclusive, adult’s only resorts. This is my second time staying at Secrets (first being Maroma). Secrets Playa Mujeres didn't disappoint. I'll try to write my review in order to be helpful to others who are considering booking here. Stay was Sept 2nd to Sept 9th 2017* First I have to give huge thumbs up to the staff!!! They were amazing and always seemed willing to help. I have to give a shout out to Marcella, the pool bar waitress. She was absolutely amazing and remembered us by the 2nd day, including what we had been drinking and there were 12 of us. We never waited for drinks; I just can't say enough, she was incredible. Fernando, entertainment staff was very fun. He always made it a point to stop and say hi to our group and got us participating in lots of fun activities and games. If you meet either of them, please tell them the Utah group says hi. I wish I could remember everyone's names. The disco bartenders and waitress were amazing as well as all the restaurant staff. I never did see housekeeping, but they did amazing to. * We had a swim out suite in building #3. Our patio faced the pool. Some people may not like that as you get to see a lot of guests walking by. But we loved it; we were so close to the pool and restaurants that area. Everything in the room was nice, bed comfortable, really nice toiletries, shower, and tub seating area. The swim out was smaller than I had expected, but it didn't bother us. We ended up not spending much time in there because we were so close to the pool, so I don't think we would get that room category again. But that's only our preference, nothing was wrong with it. * Food was great. I'm not a foodie and I'm not much into gourmet type food. If I didn't like something it was because it was new to me and just didn't like the taste. But I never found anything wrong with the food. The pool side restaurant does have amazing beef soup. The whole group loved it. * Beach was amazing with very clear water. We were able to see stingrays, crabs, and fish just wading into the water. * Pool was fun and nice to hang out in, and that is where we spent most of our time. * Grounds and buildings. At first I was a little concerned about the distance between the room and the main lobby/restaurants/theater/disco. Wasn't sure I would like having to wait for a golf cart to get there. Walking is an option, but it's a long walk and there is only the road to walk on. If anyone decides to walk, I wouldn't recommend doing it at night. With that said, the carts were always available and we never waited longer than a minute, so my worries were not founded, it worked out fine. I have a couple of recommendations for the hotel based on my previous visits to other resorts, but by no means would any of these stop me from coming back. 1. I missed have towel art on my bed every day. That is something I always look forward to and didn't get any here. I know this is trivial, but something I always have liked.2. The only music by the pool was when there was a band playing or the entertainment staff was starting a game. When neither were there, no music was playing, which then caused guests to play their own music on portable speakers. I love music and would love to have it playing all the time, but it's not fun when you have two or three different kinds of music going at the same time. All other resorts I've been to, they have background music playing all day in the pool and most prohibit guests from playing their own music in the main pool area. 3. Bigger bottles of bug spray. I know that the mosquito issue is not the hotels fault, as I’ve had this happen at other resorts to. Would be nice to also have some type of bite remedy for when you do get bit. 4. The Reggae band by the pool was amazing; I think they are there on Mondays. However, all the bands seemed a little too loud, could be turned down a little. 5. Half of our group is smokers. We understand that most resorts don’t allow smoking in the rooms and public areas, which we are all ok with. Our issue is that we were told there were designated smoking areas, around the resort. But we never could find these areas and never found any ashtrays. My group always made sure to throw away their cigarette butts, but I seen several other quests leaving them around the pool and seating areas. I recommend having these designated areas and let people know where they are and supply the ashtrays. Overall this resort was amazing and would love to come back again. Please feel free to ask me any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them.

 Could not have been better.
My wife and I stayed a week at Secrets Playa Mujeres. We were in an ocean view preferred suite. The room was beautiful and well serviced. We were there to relax and despite an earthquake to the east of us and a hurricane to the west, we had sunshine all seven days in a row. The service throughout the resort was excellent; specific praise goes out to Blanca at poolside and Guillermo at the Market Cafe. The whole of the resort from lobby, room, pool, restaurants, to the beach was beautiful and very well maintained. The added bonus of being able to use the Dreams resort next door was quite an added plus. We would easily return were it not that there are so many other places to explore with the unlimitted vacation club.

 Private pool room is amazing!
My husband and I stayed at SPM from Aug. 30 to Sept. 8. The resort is beautiful with 3 pools and multiple hot tubs. The resort is in sections with many of the restaurants being in a different area of the resort. You can ride a golf cart back and forth. We never had to wait long for a golf cart and found them fun to ride.Room:We stayed in an oceanfront master suite with a private pool. The room was fabulous and having our own pool was amazing. We were near the end and had a nice ocean view, but the view from rooms further in were blocked by hedges. The water was a little chilly the first day so we called to have maintenance heat the pool up and they came quickly to increase the heat. We are used to having swimup rooms that have a pool connected to the other rooms on that floor and we just loved the privacy and peacefulness of having our own pool. The room itself was very big, had 2 toilets, and a large shower with 2 rain shower heads. Pools:There are 3 pools. The front pool is the smallest and was a cooler temp than the other 2. It seems a tranquil place to be until they start pool volleyball in that pool. It has a very shallow area close to the ocean which makes it awkward to get to the edge to see the ocean. The second pool has the swim-up bar, is very large, and is warmer than the front pool. This is where the games put on by the entertainment staff take place. They also have live music nearly daily at this pool. The reggae band was really good. The third pool is also very large and is the warmest of the 3, and was more peaceful. This pool has a beach entry on one end that was nice to lay in. We never had a problem finding lounge chairs or shade, but the occupancy was lower being off-season. It was even easy to get chairs in the coveted spots due to the low occupancy so chair reserving was not an issue at the pool. One thing we did not like about the pool is that you cannot order lunch to your chair poolside. Any other Secrets that we have been to offers this service and it is something that we missed being able to do.Beach:The beach is beautiful with soft white sand. There are beach beds available for Preferred Club members and supposedly it is first come first served. The first morning when we went down to get a bed at about 9:00am all but two beds were set up as being used by people, even though there were only people in a few of them. We found out talking to the beach concierge that he was taking tips to set up beds for people every morning so that they would not have to come down early to get a bed and did not have to be in it all day. We were there for hours and most of the beds that people had "arranged" to have remained empty. If the resort would enforce the first come first served and no reserving chairs/beds longer than 30 minutes rules more people could enjoy the beach beds.Food:The food at this resort was really good. We ordered room service for breakfast many mornings and it was often delivered sooner than the time estimated and was cooked as ordered. The breakfast buffet had a large selection to choose from. The lunch buffet also had a variety of food, and had a pasta station and stir fry station. The best part of the lunch buffet was the ice cream station. The coconut is a must! For dinner the French was our favorite and we ended up eating there three times. Bordeaux, as at most of the French restaurants at Secrets resorts does not have an entrée on the menu for vegetarians and I was happy that they let me order off the Italian menu if I chose while at Bordeaux. The chef in Bordeaux also made a special meal for me one night on the fly because Portofino was closed and that meal was delicious. All other restaurants had at least one vegetarian entrée on the menu. One surprise at this resort was how good the drinks were. Most resorts make the drinks too sweet, but we did not have that problem at SPM.Service: The staff were very friendly and pretty attentive. There were some things where you had to ask for things, but they were always given when you asked. For example, pool floats were not out in the pools. We noticed that only a few people had floats, so we asked the pool concierge and he said they don't put them out, but if you ask they will bring you one. We thought that was strange, but we were able to get one easily with this system so we did not mind. We also had to ask for a float for our swimup even though they are all supposed to have one already. We were there for our anniversary, which our travel agent informed them of, and we brought a copy of our marriage license, which they asked for at check-in, but we did not have a banner on our door, didn't have our anniversary listed in the sundial on our anniversary, and did not get the breakfast in bed, special turndown service, etc. which was a little disappointing. However, for our anniversary we had dinner at Bordeaux and the staff there gave us a very special dinner service when we mentioned it was our anniversary. They even had the saxophone player who was playing outside come in and serenade us. They made us feel very special. The mosquitoes were really bad this year, aggressive, voracious. We literally ran out of Oceana at breakfast one morning in a cloud of mosquitoes. The restaurant had run out of Off spray and was calling to get more, but we could not stay and wait because the bugs were so bad. We got into a routine of stopping by the Preferred Club after turn down had occurred every evening to ask them to spray our room. This made a big difference in our ability to sleep. Bring bug spray and antihistamine cream.Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this resort. For sure we had the best room we have ever experienced, and I was truly sad to leave it. This resort gets a lot of mixed reviews, but if you have booked here I wouldn't worry as you will have a good time. I would consider returning to SPM mostly to have that room again, but most likely if we come back to the Riviera Maya we would go back to Secrets Maroma Beach which is still at the top of our list for service, food, and overall experience at a Secrets resort. At this point though, we are going to go back to Cabo for our next trip which is delightfully free of mosquitoes.

 Secrets does not dissappoint !!
My husband and I just came back from a 6 day stay at Secrets Playa Mujeras resort by recommendation of our travel agent to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed . After reading several reviews, we had some doubts, but overall had a very pleasant experience. -- Let me start with all the positives. We were picked up at the airport and brought to our resort in a timely fashion and when we arrived, we were greeted with a wet towel and a glass of champagne. As we checked into the Preferred Club, we also were welcomed with our choice of beverage and a snack in the Preferred Club area. Our room had a lovely view of the ocean and was set up for our anniversary. The room was clean, comfortable and a good size.-- We also feel that the staff was extremely friendly and always greeted us with a smile. They were always there when needed. Whether we were on the beach or at the poo,l someone always came by to check on us and get us a beverage. -- The grounds were well kept and the beach was always kept clean as well. They sometimes cleaned the beach area and seaweed 2x a day. -- The entertainment at the pool and in the theater were also great.. The entire staff works very hard and long hours to make sure everyone has a good time They had a live band in the pool area on Monday and other bands in the Desires lounge nightly.-- I had a massage at the Spa that was amazing (extra fee). Theresa did an awesome job. --The food at all the restaurants was good quality and drinks everywhere were TOP SHELF. Never had a bad drink. !! The breakfast and lunch at the buffet did not disappoint. Good quality food and plenty of selection. Our favorite places were Oceana, the French Restaurant and Portofino. Although portions were a moderate size, you were always free to order as many things as you wanted at any time. -- Although you had to take golf carts to and from some restaurants and entertainment centers, I have to say, we never had to wait more than a couple minutes to get a cart .-- And lastly, an added benefit was the short walk to the Dreams, which also had many amenities that you were welcomed to use as a guest of the Secrets. So you had more choices for food and entertainment. As far as any negatives, we only had a couple minor suggestions: --The musty smell in our room, we know is due to the weather, however maybe putting a few air fresheners in the rooms would be a nice touch. Sprays do not help.-- Although the room was clean when we first arrived, not too much effort other than the bare basics were attended to afterwards. For instance a dropped fork under a table was left there for a couple days and dirty glasses were not replaced. Also beverages in the mini frig were not replaced after use daily.-- Maybe having better and more food choices at the snack area by the pool would also be another suggestion for consideratonOverall , the pros of this resort completely outweigh the minor flaws that can be fixed and attended to. My husband and I would stay here again.

Wedding at Dreams but stayed at Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort
[email protected] is exceptional for planning your stay for your destination wedding. She chose Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort because it is adults only. It was the best resort you can imagine. Not only is it luxurious, but it met every expectation and beyond. Carey went above and beyond by upgrading many of the people in our party of 55. The resort was so accommodating and everything was top notch. Would love to come back here in the very near future!

Amazing trip complete with incredible service and top notch staff
We just recently got back from an incredible vacation at Secrets Playa Mujeres. We had to change our travel plans last minute, and our travel agent, Ruth DeMuth from TripGuy, and the Secrets staff assisted us with a seamless transition. This was our second vacation using Ruth from TripGuy, and again, she impressed us and took care of everything from transfers to securing upgrading us to a preferred ocean view suite. I cannot say enough about the staff- especially Ross ("SexyRoss") and Gus from the Entertainment Team. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and Gus and Ross always ensured we were having a great time- water balloon fights, karaoke nights, volleyball, zumba- we loved it all! They truly made our trip unforgettable. We also loved our bartenders, Antonio and Paula. Our rooms were kept clean, and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. For breakfast and lunch, we loved the Market Cafe. Our favorite dinner spots were Portifino's (the bread is amazing) and Himitsu! Overall, it was a great vacation, and I would recommend this to someone looking for somewhere nice to stay! We hope to see our new friends, Ross and Gus, again soon!

 Excellent Resort with Great Staff!
I would easily and highly recommend this resort!! We just got back and had an absolute blast. We stayed 5 nights and took a "friends" trip with 3 other couples. Little did we know we would make even more friends on this trip. The staff, especially "Sexy Ross," made our trip unforgettable. The games at the pool, the preferred club beach cabanas, karaoke night, restaurants, access to Dreams were all incredible. We had a last minute change of plans that brought us to Playa Mujeres and we are so grateful it did! Wishing I could go back now. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly, which simply enhanced our trip. Such a great time and wish we were still there sipping on something yummy, laying on a float in the pool!

 Brilliant Holiday!
Having just returned from a week at Secrets Playa Mujeres, I have to say that it was one of the best trips away I've had in a long time. The weather was perfect, the pools were clean and staffed at all times and the room was spotless every day. The food was lovely, although I wouldn't be in a rush to go to the Italian restaurant again because both the food and service were mediocre. I would definitely recommend checking at Gaucho Grill at Dreams because the food there was incredible!A special shout out has to go to the Entertainment team because they were on point every day and did their best to get an otherwise tough crowd to get involved with the activities. Big thank you to Ross, Fernando and Gustavo for keeping us entertained - they are worth their weight in gold!Having the choice of going to Dreams for the day to hang out by the pool or for food was nice because it was like having a 'Buy One Get One Free' option which was great. I would definitely recommend staying at Secrets if you're going away as a couple or a group of adults - I'll definitely be going back.

 Great Destination with Top Service
We spent 4 nights at the secrets playa mujeres, this is the second secrets we visited, after spending a week at the secrets located in the papagayo peninsula in Costa Rica.We got the preferred club room with sea view, it was great, it even had a bathtub in the balcony. There are plenty of dining options, and they are all outstanding. This is a truly all inclusive, and they offer great selection of drinks including top shelf liquors.I have to thank My friend and prefer lounge Enrique, who went out of his way to make our stay pleasant. Gracias mi amigo!I played a round of golf and i even got to know "Carlitos" the 2 meter aligator in the lake. Golf course was spotless.
