Our first trip to Mexico, glorious honeymoon we will be back!
Due to adverse weather in our original destination, we were moved to Secrets Playa Mujures in Mexico last minute. Well all we can say is were so glad that happened. This place has been nothing but amazing. On our arrival our suitcases were taken from the transfer and taken straight to our room for us, we were given champagne and the hotel was explained to us. we were given over £200 in vouchers to use towards the spa, a romantic dinner for two and towards wine off the exclusive list. They congratulated us for recently getting married and took us to our room, the bell boy showed us how everything worked in the room, he showed us were all the light switches were, how to use the safe, coffee machine and explained that the all inclusive minibar (filled with bottled coke, sprite, fruit juice and corona) was refilled everyday. He also showed us to the in-room tablet - which gave further information about the hotel, excursions, internet access and games etc. he also explained that there is 24/7 room service which could be ordered via the tablet or telephone. Our room was beautiful it had a king-size bed with white cotton linens which were changed daily on our request (however they are trying to be green and ask that you requests the sheets are changed only when necessary which i think is important). we had a huge wardrobe with a safe, iron and ironing board in it. There is a laundry service for your clothes and shoes but we didn't need to use this. In the room there are lots of plug sockets for all you electrical items (you will need an adapter if travelling from the UK). There is also a USB port by the bed so you can charge all your devices. there was an Ipod docking station with a 24 hour clock in the room too. There was a second table and large sofa in the room. Our balcony was a good size with table and chairs, a beautiful view of the sea and the pool. it has a mosquito net leading from the balcony to the room if you don't want the door shut. (now the mosquito are keen out there and its definitely worth purchasing a bug repellent - we brought one with us form the UK but it didn't seem to work - although i get bitten wherever i go so maybe they just love me - i did buy the local spray called "OFF" which seemed to help a lot more). Our bathroom had a separate toilet, shower with two different heads (one of which is a beautiful rain shower which was just lovely). there are two sinks and a huge spa bubble bath (which fits two people in easily). int he room there was shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, sun lotion and bug spray. There were new slippers and towel bath robes which were a lovely touch. The TV had good channels (recommend 29 and 31 for film buffs).Another nice touch was the secret hatch which meant you could put things in it or have things delivered to the room without being disturbed or interrupted - however when staff did knock at the door they were very discrete. When we told them we were on honeymoon they put a really cute banner on the door which was a sweet touch. The room is fully air-conditioned and can easily be adjusted to your preferred temperature. The pool is great it has several sections to it. some of the sun beds (all rattan and very comfortable) were part submerged in the water which was really good on the hotter days. each morning a fresh towel was rolled up and placed on each sun bed so you don't need to worry about taking towels to this hotel. There are kabanahs for people seeking shade and lots of sun parasols too. There are two bars both of which serve premium spirits and make pretty much anything you ask for. The pool has waiters and waitresses around it who take your order while you swim or sun bathe and deliver them back to you. they were really good fun, very helpful and professional. i would like to mention one pool waiter - Darvelio (Darvy) who was such good fun very attentive, polite and worked very hard each shift! Hotel secrets has a sister hotel called dreams and you can use any of their facilities too which include, pools, bars, lazy river slides and restaurants (however dreams is not adult only and it was a lot noisier with all the children there). September seems to be a good time to come as the hotel is a little quieter and you have your pick of the pool seats throughout the day. The pool leads directly to the beach which is private and secure, there are lifeguards and yet another bar. the beach also has waiter and waitress service, towels a choice of sunbeds and kabanahs. the beach was very clean with white sand, there is a little bit of sea weed when you first enter the water but after this it is clear and beautiful the water is warm and lovely. there are beautiful views of Isla Mujures from here, you can also get involved in parasailing, jet skiing and other water based activities from the pier just outside our hotels. When leaving the beach there were two warm showers to rinse off the sand before heading back to the hotel. The views truly were stunning. The service here is like nothing i have ever encountered or experienced before. all the staff genuinely want to help you and ensure you have the best time. All of the lobby staff, buggy drivers and the room service and house keeping staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. In the market place cafe where breakfast and buffet lunch are served each day, we were delighted with the service from all staff in there but particularly the service given to us by Erik (who we became very fond of and sad to leave) and Ernesto who was always very accommodating and happy. in fact all the staff looked happy and appeared to enjoy their jobs! the staff are so attentive, very polite and so helpful. there is often harpist playing in the morning which i really enjoyed and was a such a good way to start the day.The food is great for breakfast, there is so much to choose from, it literally has something for everyone. My husband particularly enjoyed the omelettes that were made to order and cooked in front of you. the food here was great, there is Mexican, Italian, French and an Asian hibachi restaurant and a grill by the pool. most of the restaurants have a dress code so gentleman need to wear long trousers and collared shirts whilst ladies need to dress relatively smart (nice dress or smart top and trousers). you can also use the restaurants at dreams hotel but we didnt do this as we enjoyed the food at secrets so much, we heard very good things about the steak house and the Brazilian. every few days they set up a restaurant around the pool for some Al -Fresco dining which included BBQ and Mexican dishes, this was nearly always accompanied by some form of musical entertainment, be it a singer or various different styles of musical bands. There is a broad selection of wine all inclusive but you can also upgrade to a more expensive bottle if you fancy it. The entertainment team were fantastic offering a number of different activities during the day and into the evening. they were so fun and passionate and was really fun getting to know them. there is a film under the stars every evening (this is usually quite a recent film too), there was a theater were shows were regularly performed and a sports bar that turns into a club and is open until 1am i think. this showed lots of sports and played good music it also had 2 snooker tables too. The entertainment team had some really cool activities to try like tequila tasting, cigar rolling master class (which was really cool to learn even if you dont smoke), Mexican cooking, bike rides, a poker nights, table tennis, rodeo bull, aqua aerobics, aqua zumba, and so much more. Ross and Fernando from the team were great fun and really encouraged us to get involved in things without being overbearing. they made us laugh everyday. Ross even taught us Spanish which we really enjoyed too.We went on several excursions which included, Exlor Fuego, Chich-chen-itza, Coco Bongos, Xenses & Xel-ha. We anjoyed them all but really recommend Exlor Fuego, Coco bongos and Kel-ha. there is so much to do that you could go back 3 times to mexico and still not have done everything. we were given champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room and offered a romantic dinner for two by the beach, due to it raining meant we had to move it inside. so instead we had our five course romantic dinner served to us in our bedroom, it was so romantic our waiter was very discrete and very helpful. the meal was divine. The weather has been fantastic with occasional rain showers that last half an hour but it still stays warm and sunny. don't be put of by hurricane season, it hasn't affected us at all, we also had 2 earthquakes that hit mexico city during our stay but again no effect on us at all. The hotel and and its grounds were very well maintained and it was very clean everywhere. The hotel is very safe with private beach and gated entrance. This trip truly has been amazing and couldn't have wished for more from our honeymoon as it has been fantastic and i don't think i can do it justice at all in describing the level of excellence there is here. we have enjoyed it so much and cannot wait to come back here in the future, we give Secrets 5* and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for some adult only luxury! thank you so much for the best holiday ever!
