Stunning Hotel & AMAZING STAFF
I booked this hotel in sept 16 for a surprise trip for my husband, I booked a lagoon view room, and couldnt wait to get there...On arrival, we were greeted with a hot towel and very big smiles from the very hard working meet & greet, they showed us to the reception area, where a very sweet young chap ( so sorry im no good at remembering names), greeted us, and checked us in, we were then offered an '' upgrade'' to ocean view, as I had specifically wanted the lagoon view, we said that we would take a look at the lagoon view first, then check the ocean view, and we could decide on viewing... I had not seen many if any reviews on the lagoon view, so I was a little worried as to what we would see, but, the room was stunning, very spacious, hot tub and double sunbeds on the balcony with the perfect....ish view of the lagoon, just what I wanted and paid for, BUT....the only thing that stopped us from staying in there was the BUILDERS & CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE NEXT DOOR!!!... I couldnt believe it, so we said ok, we can have a look at the ocean view, we went to floor 8 from floor 3, he opened the door.... and WOW WOW........The room ( 810) was fully decorated out for hubby and I with rose petals over the huge bed, around the tub, the table, that had a bottle of red wine and 2 glasses, there was also a sweet little birthday card for hubby! and an anniversary banner for us, , we took one look out of the patio window, and we were speechless, we opened the door, and the view was so die for, we didnt need to say anything more... this was definitely the room for us for our 2 week stay.Yes it did cost a little extra, but it was better to pay the extra than have construction workers waking you up at 7am...I really wanted the lagoon room, so I could post a review of it, had it not been for the construction workers, we would have stayed. So this maybe a little long winded but bear with me, ;We stated to the reception that we wanted to just go to our room, and shower, change and unpack, we did not want to be bothered by the resort credit people, we were so tired after our 10 hour flight, we took the decision not to go with the resort credits, and they did not bother us after our arrival.A polite, firm no thankyou is all thats needed.our room ; 810An amazing room, with everything that you could possibly need ;Huge shower, separate toilet, twin sinks & mirrors, big wardrobe with hangers, a coded safe, massive hot tub, huge bed ( very comfy), table and chairs, bedside cabinets, drinks cabinet, mini fridge ( re-stocked daily), lots of drawers, and a balcony that was small but had a small table and 2 chairs so you can sit relax and admire the stunning views. There is also air-con, which was brilliant, its so cool in the room when you return from the pool & beach.FOOD & DRINK ;On the all inclusive, everything is paid for, and at your fingertips. There is 24 hour room service, that we did take advantage of especially for breakfast, A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO '' OUR LITTLE VICKY, You have a room service breakfast menu ticket, that you can complete and leave on the hook of your door before 3am, and for most of our stay, our little Vicky arrived with morning coffee, and breakfast, at the time we asked for, and with a huge smile, she has to be the BEST waitress on the team, We miss you already Vicky... xxYou have a choice of 4 restaurants to eat, The Mexican a la carte, The Italian, The Oriental and The stake, we did visit all, and only complained about one meal during our stay.A big thank you to ; Mauritizio ( hopefully I have the spelling correct), Ivan in the Oriental, Frieda in the Mexican, and the 2 beach servers, ( again so sorry I forgot your names, these guys work so hard, walking the beach making sure that your drink is full, if its empty they check to see if you want a top up, they really do earn their tips, also a big thankyou to the life guard on the beach, he kept us all safe when storms were approaching, he knows what hes doing, people pay attention if he blows his whistle, its for a reason, he also plays a apart in the Turtle Conservation, ( more on that later).Thankyou to all the staff that assisted us to have an amazing holiday. You guys are Sun Palace, keep up the good work.Overall the food & drink were very good, there is always something that you can eat, and if you dont see something that you like, then ask the staff, their motto is '' its a pleasure'' and they all do an amazing job, if you do not ask, you wont get.Entertainment ; Ok so the entertainment is not for everyone, during the day, your offered to join in activities such as ; beach vollyball, pool vollyball, yoga, pool games, and more, if you dont want to join in, again a polite no thank you is all thats needed.Evenings, you have a variety ; Michael Jackson tribute, ( very good show) magician, fire show ( again very good), karaoke, Jersey Boys tribute ( very good), Beach party, ( which got cancelled due to storms), singers in the lobby bar, just keep an eye out for the little posters in the lifts. ideally it could do with a little more variety, especially if your stay is 2 weeks, but all shows were good, we enjoyed them.Turtles ;We had the pleasure of releasing baby turtles back into the ocean on 3 occasions during our stay, so that people do not get confused as to where to go, if you go to the showers, by the wooden steps that go onto the beach, you will be in the right place. One top tip from me, if your awake at around 3.30am / 4am, and go onto your balcony, look onto the beach, you maybe lucky enough to see the Mumma turtles laying her eggs, she digs very deep into the sand, and shes there for quite a while, due to my body clock being out of sorts, many early mornings I got to witness 5 maybe 6 mummas laying her eggs, I was so blessed to have been able to witness this, there is a very big turtle conservation policy along the hotel zone, you will see the guys coming onto the beach, and collecting the newly laid eggs, they then transfer these eggs to a protected area, where they then bury them back into the sand until they hatch, guests can then view them coming out of the sand and the conservation guys then release them into the ocean, pending the time of day, they are usually released at around 10pm.This is a brilliant experience, and not one to be missed. There are gift shops and a jeweler in the hotel, quite expensive, but very nice, if by any chance you change your mind on a purchase, be warned, they do not give refunds, only an exchange.Excursions/ trips ; lots on offer if your wanting to visit the dolphins, I would highly recommend the Platinum Dolphin Swim & Garrafon Park, Thanks to our TUI rep Jason, he saved us a fortune, as I have always wanted to swim with the dolphins, I was going to pre-book via the dolphin discovery website, but decided to wait until I arrived to find out which experiences were the better, I originally wanted to do the trainer for the day, it was a good job that I waited, we were informed that its not the best trip, and was advised to do the platinum as this was a full day, all inclusive, and more time with the dolphins.I have done a full review on dolphin discovery, feel free to view on my other reviews. This was by far the best ever experience, and one that I fully recommendOther trips were available, speak to the TUI rep, you can save alot of money.. TOWEL STATION; You do not need to take your own towels, towels are replenished in the rooms, and there is a towel station just by the pool bar. There is a clear sign asking guests to return the towels, this is a brilliant idea, but such a shame that some people decided to just leave their wet dirty towels on the sunbeds on leaving the pool & beach at the end of the day. we felt so sorry for the little guy coming around collecting them all, he piled them high on his body, working so hard, then returning to tidy the beach, ( we tipped him to, so deserving of a little extra in his pocket).TIPPING STAFF ; we had no idea of how much to tip, when to tip etc, that we decided to get 5000 pesos, ( £220) for tipping, and by goodness me do the staff earn every single penny. We tipped every single person that served us, and it was money well spent.Tip what you can afford, and for great service, these people deserve that little extra, we were never disappointed, and always had good service. We understand that the '' gratuities '' are included in the price you pay for staying at the hotel, but once again, the staff are the hotel, they are at your service and nothing is a bother to them, wether it be a 20 peso note ( £1) or a 50 pesso note ( £2.50), it helps the staff a great deal.I know this was a very long review, but if helps then Ive done my bit to make your stay a very pleasant one.Any questions feel free to send me a message. There is so much more that I could say about this beautiful hotel, if you have any questions please feel free to message me, Im more than happy to help.Mr Winkler, its a shame you didnt make yourself known to us during our stay, I wanted to thankyou personally for granting my requests prior to arrival. Your staff are the ones that make Sun Palace, they are a massive credit to the hotel.Would we return ... yes, but maybe in a different month, we arrived 25th august hoping for lovely weather for the duration of our stay, but we did have some rainy days and stormy nights, not the hotels fault, its just mother nature, Again staff reassured us that we were in no danger, ( hurricanes and earth quakes as per in the latest news reports). We did have some very nice hot days, which we really enjoyed on the beach, so dont be put off, just relax and enjoy. Was this a 5* experience? ; for us DEFINITELY, .
