EXCELLENT

We Love Labna, Cancun

We are an operator of restaurants we admire the culture, customs and this land, its people and their way of being. In our restaurant you can enjoy genuine dishes, an interesting atmosphere and service with typical warmth of our race. In addition to the flavor of these exotic lands, home to one of the most amazing civilizations of mankind, that for more than 10,000 years ago populate this region and hunting, gathering and agriculture learned to survive giving rise to a unique cuisine that many years later with the influence and contributions of conquerors modern cuisine that is admired is created. We work with the emerging recipes "vox populi" ie the housewives, from every corner of the peninsula, from which arise the different dishes with different ingredients and flavors.

 Superb!
I entered for "real" Mexican food and left wanting to eat there daily. I value quality food with exceptional ingredients and preparation. This exceeded my standards. For $15 USD I savored a huge bowl of Lime Soup followed by Pumpkin Seed Roasted Chicken, drink, and a generous tip. The portion was so large I took half the entree home. The menu highlights Mayan culture and local ingredients. The food was flavorful and extremely well-prepared. The restaurant is a finer establishment with beautiful presentation techniques and quality service. I will certainly be back.

 Absolutely incredible
By far the best dining experience I had in Cancun. The flavors, imagination, and consideration with which each dish is cooked, presented, explained (by the wonderful servers) was awe-inspiring. Come here and be adventurous! Ask for recommendations and ask questions about what you're eating. It's an opportunity to learn about an under-appreciated food tradition in a beautiful dining space.

Excellent food in a beautiful setting
After wanting to try Labna for several years now, we finally made it and it did not disappoint. The food was very good. We had the chicken lime soup, which came with a small plate of garnishes (chopped onion, cilantro, lime peel and habanero pepper; I wish that the soup was hotter (although it was served in tureen) and that the plate of garnishes was larger. I had a Mexican dish… fish with a squash flowers gratinee. It was delicious but not as good as much husband’s fish with was a Mayan dish, poached in foil with a delicious licorice tasting sauce. The service was excellent.

You will enjoy your time at Labna restaurant. The service is excellent as is the atmosphere. The restaurant offers many Yucatan specialties and is quite enjoyable. The prices are reasonable and I believe you will not regret trying this restaurant while in downtown Cancun.

 First visit--GREAT!
We read reviews on here and decided we wanted to give it a try. We took a taxi over and ate there. The food was great and service was awesome. It is not traditional Mexican, it is the Yucatecan/Mayan cuisine. It was easy to get a taxi too! You should definitely give it a try....if you like to try different foods and experiences!

 Best Sopa de Lima!!
Very close to Parque las Palapas (Palapas Park) if you need a landmark for bus/taxi. The same owner as La Habichuela which is the more famous fusion restaurant. However, we liked the food better at Labna, which serves Yucatan food. The Sopa de Lima is the bomb. Wifey and I kept going back for second and third helpings. The waiters speak decent English and are very friendly and helpful. They give you a tour of the buffet offerings so you know what you are eating. They may even prepare the sopa de lima for you the first time as the ingredients are all separated out and you only add the chicken broth last to your bowl. We got some complimentary items as well from the menu that was not at the buffet table, like the papadzule. So we stuffed ourselves silly, including drinks - the best Tamarindo ever (not watered down) and dessert (Papaya compote with cheese was amazing) - and the bill came out to less than what we paid for our meal at Surfin Burrito in the Hotel Zone. I think it's just shy of $10 USD for adults and children are about half price for the buffet. Unreal the price difference between a burrito bar in the tourist area versus higher end all you can eat in the downtown area! Afterward we hung out at Palapas park where the locals hang out and got to try street food on carts (e.g. Marquesitas - rolled up Mexican crepe with Nutella and cheese) as there is always room for more dessert =)

 Amazing food at Labna
By far the best food we ate in Cancun. With a family of self-admitted food snobs, this place completely surprised us. We ordered all of the specialties of the house (simply asked our waiter what to order) and could not decide which was best. A true Yucatan food experience. Very highly recommended.

REAL non-tourist Food of Yucatan Peninsula!!!!! AAAAAA+++++++
This beautiful restaurant is next to Parque las Palapas, where the locals hang out on week ends. The food is delicious, the staff is impeccable and the prices are non-tourist!The restaurant has a buffet every day from 12:30 to 5 p.m. All the locals pack the place for their lunchtime. In the evening it is super quiet and a perfect place for a romantic meal.On top of that there is a great guitarists that plays at various times throughout the night.

 Awesome Authentic Food Experience!
We wanted to try authentic Yucatan food. This restaurant was highly recommended. We went in on 5/29th to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was very quiet. Only one other family was seated. We told them it was our first time. The manager came out with samples of sauces and chips for us to try which really helped us decide what to order. We ordered a sampler plate. The sopa de lima soup(chicken noodle soup with lime) is very good. We were told to try Conchita Pibil (roasted pork), Poc Chuc ( marinated and grilled pork)and Silik Pak(pumpkin seed dip) Everything was delicious. They were so kind and brought a slice of cake and sang to him. I loved eating food that was not tourist food.

 Wonderful experience, excellent food!!!
It’s been exactly one month since I was in the Yucatan and have been meaning to write this recommendation ever since. Partly because I promised the owner, but moreover it is so well deserved and the least I could do in exchange for such a wonderful experience, awesome food, and such great service. Despite my wanting to keep this restaurant a well-kept secret, my conscience tells me that such a good thing should be shared feely and the proprietors deserve more recognition. This recommendation is for real! After a two week exploration of the Yucatan and upon returning back to Cancun, I wanted to try for dinner the best of the best in Cancun for Yucatec cuisine; the type of place that the locals go when they want elevated, delicious, well executed Yucatec food. I was told that Labnah (the name of the restaurant) was the place to go. Oh cool, I thought, I went to Labnah during my travels, so would be a cool full circle to tie it all together.Upon entering, I noticed that the restaurant was virtually empty, but for just one table of locals. Red flags slightly raised. The décor was very pleasant. High ceiling, nice lighting, quite, comfortable, and elegant. After all was said and done, it was clear that this place should not be so empty, rather it should be totally full of people that appreciate good food and good service. The waiter was the proprietor, a very gracious host, and he recognized my interest in learning about the food and culinary tradition. He was very willing to share many details and provided excellent explanations and insights into the culinary tradition and descriptions of the specific dishes that my friend and I ordered. I should mention that I speak fluent Spanish, so all of my interactions were in Spanish. I cannot vouch for the staff’s ability to converse in English or other languages, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that they will do their very best to serve anyone with the utmost of care and attention. My friend and I were extremely pleased with the experience and the food was out of this world delicious. What an awesome way to end the trip. I am not one to write reviews, ever, good or bad, but since this was so special, because the restaurant owner and his son who manages the establishment and who will one day take ownership were so gracious, and because the food was so delicious and deserved of way more recognition, I wanted to make a resounding recommendation to anyone who is traveling in Cancun and would like to try excellent Yucatec food. I can’t say that everyone will have the same experience as I, but I will venture to say that you will have delicious food with excellent service. Try it!

 Yucatán gourmet
I went here the first night of my vacation in Cancun on a recommendation from a bellhop at the hotel I was staying at. I took the R-1 bus into Cancun center during rush hour, which took over an hour (make sure you allot enough time if you are going for dinner), but it was well worth it. The service is excellent and you can tell that the staff and management take great pride in customer experience. I ordered the lime soup and the the Yucatán sampler platter, all of which was excellent. I had a great conversation with the manager, and he even ordered me a taxi back to the hotel. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to escape the Zona Hotelera and get a taste of affordable and authentic Yucatán cuisine.

 A Taste of the Yucatan
We dropped in at 8PM on a weekday night for dinner. There was almost no one in the restaurant which gave us a little pause. Our host, Gabriel, told us the busy time is lunch. The lime soup was spectacular. We ordered the Yucatán combination dinner. The flavors were wonderful. The pumpkin seed purée (think humus) was unique and flavorful. The combination plate is heavy on meat. We took leftovers for a breakfast scramble the next morning.

 A hidden treasure in Cancun
This area of Cancun is considered "downtown," and not in the Zona Hoteleria. It may take some looking to find it. We discovered it about 30 years ago when we ate at the nearby La Habicuela (The Green Bean), which is still there. Interestingly, our cab driver back then could not understand why we wanted to go to this area, which he, in so many words, described as dodgy. I am happy to say that the area has not changed ONE BIT since then! I did not feel unsafe, but be assured, it appears to be anything but touristy. Hooray! Labna is traditional Yucatecan food, and all of it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was perfect, even for our large group, and I love the unusual Tiffany-like snake sconce-style lamps hanging on the wall. Our group had the pork and chicken dishes, and they were scrumptious. A lone minstrel serenaded us with guitar in the Spanish style, which was a wonderful touch. If you are in the area, try Labna or La Habichuela, two doors down. You will not be disappointed!

My husband and I throughly enjoyed the food and service at Labna. The waiter was very attentive, the live background music was soothing and the food was absolutely fresh.  Fine Yucatecan Dining
After having dined at the owners' sister restaurant La Habichuela on previous Cancun trips and having wonderful meals there, we dined for the first time at Labna. We were not disappointed. The party of 4 ordered fish of the day (grouper), pibil pork, and poc chuc...all excellent dishes and the wait staff was attentive. Live entertainment was provided at our table by a guitar-strumming minstrel.

 Excellent Yucatecan food!!
This restaurant is in downtown Cancun and not in the touristy area... which is to say maybe a little sketchy part of town but my girlfriend and I walked from a nearby hotel about 10 minutes without anyone bothering us. We went for an early dinner at around 4:30 in time for the buffet. My girlfriend chose a fish from the menu in tinfoil with Yucatecan spices and it was absolutely delicious. I chose the buffet (and I recommend it if you want to try a little bit of everything) and everything I tried was simply delicious as well. To top it off we had a coconut custard dessert that just blew our minds. We would have had 20 if we hadn't been full by then. The service was great, the atmosphere was nice but casual, and we even got a complimentary appetizer of small soft corn tortillas with different meats and toppings, plus a tamal. For the quality of food and service, the price was beyond fair ($23 USD for both of us with a beer and water). If we ever stay in Cancun again we would pay for a taxi from the main hotel area to this restaurant. It's that good.

 Authentic food from Yucatán
I make a point to eat at Labná every time I travel to Cancún. Excelente dishes typical of the Yucstán Peninsula. Prices are very affordable. You have to take a cab, as it is in downtown Cancún, an area where the local people frequent.

 Traditional Food & Excellent Service
We traveled from the hotel zone, by bus, to sample traditional Yucatan food. It's about a 30 minute very affordable, $1.25 (US) for two each way. Arriving early, we were the only patrons for the first hour. My husband ordered a glass of wine and rather than the waiter sharing they were out of that particular brand, he walked up the street to Labna's sister restaurant LaHabichuela and brought back the bottle he had requested! A lovely gesture. The meal, from beginning to end, was very well prepared -- we both had fish that was perfectly seasoned and accompanied by fresh vegetables and rice. With dessert, which was excellent Flan, my husband requested an Espresso. Once again, our waiter departed and shortly brought back a hot cup of Espresso! Delightful evening in the old city enjoying an authentic meal!!

My partner and I darted in here while waiting for the ADO bus, very pleased we did. Service was friendly and impeccable. I highly recommend the prawns and the banana leaf pork, it was incredible. I was impressed by the value!

Yucatan food: get the whole picture in one sitting.
Enjoy the real and good Yucatan food in this place. The manager will take care of making you feel comfortable and important. They have a wide selection of dishes to pamper your taste. I started with a Lime Soup and followed up with the Paseo por Yucatan, which is a taste of different local dishes in one, to see what the place had to offer. A very pleasant surprise. I think it´s the best way to start for beginners. It´s a place to return often. I will.

Great stop on a rainy night!
This was our last dinner in Mexico on this trip, I think we chose well! Very attentive service, great food and equally great prices made it a memorable final stop. We would come here again! The Yucatán platter was fantastic and the deserts also were wonderful.

Far better and less expensive than higher rated sister restaurant (L' Habichulela)
I had the foil wrapped fish that was cooked with banana. It was very very good. Moist and well flavored this dish was great. My wife had chicken with cheese that was no where as good as my dish otherwise I would have rated the restaurant as excellent based only on my dish. The house wine was good enough for me to order multiple glasses. The restaurant had only one other patron when we visited so we practically had the whole place to ourselves. The atmosphere is a mayan temple. The key thing that makes this restaurant a little different is that the large menu has many Mayan entrees and many Mexican entrees. We will be going back.

A taste of Yucatan at the delicious buffet
After watching PBS celebrity chef, Rick Bayless' journey through the Yucatan, I needed to indulge on my Cochinita Pabil craving. I went on a mission to find a place that served this plus other authentic Yucatan foods. After getting lost and driving for about an hour through Cancun I ended up here. I was craving a Yucatan feast and boy did I have one here! Every buffet item was divine (with the exception of the tamales) especially the Cochinita Pabil*, Silik Pak*, and Mayan lime soup. My amazing dinner ended on a sweet note with coconut custard pudding. If you're looking for delicious Yucatan food then don't skip this place. First time trying Yucatan food? Then I highly recommend the buffet which is offered M-F 12:30-5:00. My total with two waters and a beer was $30 USD excluding gratuity. The service was as impeccable as the food. *Cochinita Pabil-slow cooked pork traditionally cooked in an underground pit oven. *Silik Pak- pepitas (pumpkin seed) dip

 A nice evening
When you staying in Parque de las Palapas, Labna is a convenient choice that makes you feel miles away from all the action just steps away. Service was a little slow especially with drinks but our food was good. The presentation lacked color and creativity bit this is not uncommon in some Mexican cuisine. Our appetizers and entrees were traditional and tasty.

Family Owned, High quality Ingredients, Authentic Yucantan Cuisine
A great experience and my first introduction to food of the Yucatan. This seems to be a family-owned restaurant that takes a lot of pride in food that is not made ahead of time. A great place to see where local people might eat for a special night out. The beef stew, Chicken Mole I had were both very good. Flambe dessert or flaming after dinner drink are a fun performance at your table that adds to the experience and doesn't feel contrived.

 Yucatan Fare - Nice Atmosphere
This restaurant is located on a narrow street with limited near site parking in downtown Cancun across from the Catholic church and next door to La Habucheula. Service was excellent and the wait staff very attentive, but not overbearing. Good live Spanish guitar music was played in the bar area. The primary food choices are Mayan, Yucatan or Mexican. The Sopa de Lima, Relleno Negro and Budin Maya were well prepared and presented. I would consider this to be an upscale place for downtown and reasonably priced, particularly with the current favorable Peso/US Dollar exchange rate. Worth a trip downtown for the gringos from the Hotel Zone.

This is a good restaurant that serves who seen typical of the Yucatán peninsula. That's the only type of food being offered but it's perfectly prepared and presented. This is a very good restaurant of typical cuisine that is worth a visit and better than other ones available in Cancun that offer similar dishes.

Yum...As main dish I tried the Pok Chuk, delicious pork dish with some local spices Desert, try the flamed bananas, your waiter will cook them at the table... Pretty goodValue Price relation is awesome, good food not so priceyI will come back!

 Away from the tourists
If you want a very good and very reasonably priced meal away from the Hotel Zone, in a quiet, pleasant and attractive setting, try Labna. Very authentic Yucatan fare. Wonderful deserts flambe'. Easy to get to for a 10.5 Peso bus ride on the R-1 from the Hotel Zone and a 2 minute walk. After dinner, enjoy the close by park and observe the locals at play. It was the best meal that we had in our 9 days in Cancun. (And the Margarita Gold was by far the best Margarita of the entire trip!)

This not your usual Tex mex
We only ate here once, it was late and nearly empty. The decor is fake Mayan pyramid, the kind Indiana Jones would approve, but it was dark enough for a comfortable dinner We ordered seafood empanadas followed by the traditional Cochinita Pibil and the Puk Chuk. The waiter laid in front of us a half a dozen dishes with condiments and salsas to start and it was a lovely meal. We like Yucateca cuisine, this was not the best we've had but pretty good really and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a tryps skip the cocktails.
