Quick bite while waiting for the ADO bus
Las Quekas is a small hole in the wall, a local eatery very close to the Cancun bus terminal. I had a 2-hour wait for my bus, this was the closest local place I found that was open.Didn’t feel like Subway, KFC, Church’s, or any of the other myriad US chain fast food places in the area, I don’t travel so I can eat the same kinds of food that are available at home. Much prefer to experience life as a local, with all of it's colourful elements, such as they are.Las Quekas will require some Spanish language skills, as they do not speak English, and every time I’ve been there, I am the only Gringo in the place. The food is cheap, fast, and tasty - soups, empanadas, typical Mexican fare. Empanadas were 13pesos each, as were the drinks. Not a lot of ambiance here, simply a great place to grab a quick bite while in transit, not a fancy restaurant where one would want to spend some time for a relaxing meal. The bathroom is, well, typical of those you find while travelling in Mexico; nothing fancy, it did have a toilet seat (something that can be a luxury in parts of Mexico), but it’ll get you through in a pinch. The other option is to pay to use the sanitario in the ADO bus station, which is nicer, and cleaner.
